Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Saturday 05 July 2014
It’s Fringe Day!
I played 1st-person game Thirty Flights of Loving (2012) by Blendo Games twice and still don’t really know what it is about. There is a story in there, that’s for sure. Bar, crates, birds, guns, blood, Anita, oranges, airport, guns again. No puzzles, no nothing, just some linear exploration, but the game rushes you on. It’s a trippy 15-20 minutes with the voiceless cardboard characters. In my case longer, because I got this foolish notion that peeling oranges and downing every bottle of alcohol in sight was getting me closer to the essence of the game.
I liked it.
There’s a nice moment at the start of Valiant Hearts that reminded me of this game. Basically, the story skips forward in time as a character walks from one screen to another. It’s good to get a sense that little creative games like Thirty Flights are influencing developers.
Valiant Hearts is on my list of games to buy. Interesting theme and it looks good.
