Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Monday 23 June 2014
In this scene from Dead Reefs (2007) the delightfully named Sir Amadey Finvinerro is amidst his investigation of a seemingly accidental death on the island of Dead Reefs.
I didn’t care too much for the clumsy keyboard controls, also the ending(s) of this atmospheric tale of the supernatural but was engaged by the interesting plot up to that point & the wonderfully immersive environments.
I had installed this game (with some trouble) in December of 2011, played it for 20 minutes and didn’t touch it since a couple of months ago when I finally deleted it.
One of those games that I like (and would love to love) but that doesn’t work for me.
The interface is a HUGE letdown and outweighs the interesting plot. For me, again.
I felt as if I were reading a beautiful book while someone was constantly pulling my ears, poking a finger in my eyes, kicking me in the shins.
Everybody wants to be Cary Grant.
Even Me.

I must admit zobraks, that when I started playing the game the awkward keyboard control dominated & spoilt the flow until I got used to it! I’m not a fan of keyboard control but can appreciate the full freedom of movement it can give you in a 3D environment which works well when it’s done well but unfortunately not in this game! IMO due to the restriction of views/movement/invisible barriers there was no advantage in using this interface & the game would have been more pleasing & user friendly presented in a P & C format!
