That seems to make business as a lot of people would probably wait until the end of the sale and potentially forget to purchase altogether.

I was just hoping they weren’t thinking like that. Tongue

Thanks for the response.

The Eyes of Ara is 35% off at $9.74 USD on Steam.

It would be good to have a dedicated adventuregamers feature as a guide to the summer sales. I feel completely lost as to the best offers of the best games.

https://isthereanydeal.com is a very good resource for this. You can easily see what was the lowest price for each game that might interest you.

This is a great idea. There is usually quite a bit of overlap between sales, but I did find a few titles I hadn’t noticed had been on sale previously during this years GOG Summer Sale:

- The Colonel’s Bequest
- Freddy Pharkas
- Incredible Machine Collection
- Civ IV

Nice idea except I think AdvGamers is also completely lost about the best games after giving 5 stars to mediocre Thimbleweed Park. They don’t even cover interactive fiction anymore.

I wouldn’t call 84% metacritic score mediocre, would you?

I tried going through the sale and it’s just impossible. The interface seems worse than ever and there are hundreds of pages. Has anyone chanced upon something interesting? A worth-while game that hasn’t been on 50 sales already?

Try this:
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?tags=21,1698
Filters all the point & click adventure games.

This:
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?tags=21,5900
Filters all the walking simulator adventure games.

And This:
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?tags=21,18594
Filter FMV adventure games.

There’s also this one:
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?tags=1742,492,21
Filters story rich indie adventure games although it gives you some false positives (like action adventures).

Between those 4, you cover most of them.

You can sort all those by release date if you want to see what’s new in adventure games.

Are you looking for a new or old adventure?
The new good ones are:

The proper way to do it is this: Whenever you hear about a game that might be interesting, you put it on your wishlist, and wait for Steam to tell you when it goes on sale. Anything else is unrealistic.

(Don’t even bother with Steam’s recommendation queue. In theory, it should be great, especially if you already own lots of games on Steam so that the system can figure out what you like. In practice, it sucks. Valve badly need to hire some of Netflix’s or Amazon’s engineers.)

My problem with steam recommendations is that I own a lot of games (thanks to bundles etc) that I don’t particularly like, but they are still used to predict what other games I might like. Furthermore, I use steam idle to harvest steam trading cards, to generate some cash to buy new games. Also here, games are played that I don’t care for.

Max: Right! We’ll travel through this dimensional portal on the top of the bar!
Sam: That’s spilled beer, rockhead.
Max: Oh in that case ...

I’ve started experimenting with Steam’s “Not interested” button when browsing the recommendation queue. Ask me again in 6 months if it’s helping or hurting my shopping habits. Grin Pan

FWIW, I second both Kurufinwe’s advice about the Steam Wishlist, and also giom’s recommendation for https://www.isthereanydeal.com

Obligatory on-topic note:
Prominence is in the Summer Sale, at its historical low price of $9.99 (US).

Happy adventuring (and shopping)!

I can’t figure out the Steam recommendations at all. My library is filled with adventure games only and the recommendations I get are all shooters and action games like Grand Theft Auto!

That has happened for me as well! I don’t get it?! Marketing I assume!!! What I do when I find out about a game I’m interested in I just set a favorite link for it in my browser and check on it now and again. Especially during sales! Never used the wishlist option though, I thought wishlisting was wanting someone to buy it for you?! But I can see how it is beneficial if it notifies you when sales are going on!
