papers, please
i just got this game and so far im really impressed. At first glance it may seem to be a simple arcade sim, but the over-arcing plot quickly turns into an awesome adventure experience. The premise is youre working as an immigration inspector at the border of a fictitious war-torn country, and you have to carefully examine would-be entrants for problems with their documents. The complication in the process steadily rises and youre confronted with a conspiracy and faced with moral decisions, as doing your job inevitably means turning away innocent people on technicality. Its a really neat and unique game. Im finding it really addictive.

Looks fun.
An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

I really loved the game and concept , must try.
Definitely one of the better games I’ve played this year. There’s plenty of twists and turns in the story mode that keeps it interesting especially as your desktop continues to get cluttered.
Got it last week with Spelunky on Gog. 2 great indie games. Did 2 runs with on the story mode so far, it’s a really interesting game, they keep throwing new things and dilemmas. The family problems at the end of the day… it’s brutal.
I saw in another place people were printing the manual information about the countries, I think I’m going to try that, the desk gets more and more chaotic and flipping through the pages takes a lot of time…
There’s an interesting review of the game on Ars Technica.

it really is brutal, and thats one of the brilliant things about this game, it simulates “considering taking bribes for the sake of paying for your sons medicine”. Cant say that about many games
I actually printed out the rulebook and then i havnt used it at all.. i thought it would help but iv realized its quicker to click then sift through the pages… now typing up all the info and putting it on one page, that would speed the process, but then you need to get the seals on there too.
I decided to pick it up due to this thread zane, and I have to say thank-you! It’s a great game and really gets you in the mood of the era. It’s hard to imagine it will be very popular (hi, here’s an exciting a game about stamping passports!). The only problem I have is with the automatic saving, it makes it too easy to restore after you’ve screwed up. I lasted 14 days on my first play and I’d rather play from the start, since it’s more realistic that way. But I’ve always had low self-control.

Funny how minimal the graphic representation is but the themes are so bold, which
i expect some big players should make.

cool! Yeah, i had mixed feelings about the saves too, but then if i had to start from the beginning a few more times i might not have enjoyed it as much. It certainly has nice replay value though.

hmm interesting, might have to give that a shot. And i love it when games with minimal graphics show they can be just as innovative as anything else.
Can anyone confirm that its a completely original game (or a remake ? Gameplay remind me a text ag but cant say the name)

Developer Lucas Pope went to Twitter to announce that his award winning indie game Papers, Please will be available on iPad Dec. 12. The title will be available in the App Store for $7.99, with a discount to $5.99 at launch.
Papers, Please tells the story of a border guard along the edge of a fake country called Arstotzka. Throughout the course of the game players must make decisions about who they allow to cross the border, a mundane task that eventually leads to an emotional story. The game won numerous awards including the Seumas McNally Grand Prize at the 2014 Independent Games Festival Awards and Best Simulation Game at the 2014 BAFTA Video Games Awards.
In order to pass Apple certification the game did require a change in that full nudity was removed from the game after it was rejected for containing pornographic content. Pope says that he may appeal the decision at a later time. The game is available on the iPad only, Pope said, mainly for reasons of space.

Well if someone is mature enough to enjoy playing Papers Please, surely they’re mature enough for some nudity. It’s not really a game I see hordes of 10 year old children flocking to.
Always fascinated me how a scene of a forcibly crushed rib cage and a punctured skull is a way more appropriate for children than a picture of a human being in its pure, natural form.
