Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Friday 20 March 2015
A Case of the Crabs (2004) tells a very humorous tale which starts with the stabbing, by an unknown assailant, of a seafood salesman just as he enters the office of detective Nick Bounty.
It’s a very short nicely structured Freeware game inspired by film noir + adventure classics with few locations, basic artwork & so-so story brought to life with good voice-acting & engaging dialogue.
How on earth could they give a game a title like that?!?
I always wondered.
Everybody wants to be Cary Grant.
Even Me.

The game’s about ‘cases’ of crabs - the crabs that come from the sea & not those other kind (but dodgy ones anyway) & it’s also a ‘case’ to be investigated! I’ve got to admit that it’s not a title I find appealing but is in keeping with the humour of the game which was a little on the silly side but naturally I liked it! I guess the title was intended to be ambiguous?
Oh. I thought the guy in Fedora had a (nasty) case of crabs*.
Scratching all the time and all that.
*Blame it on Bukowski. The first time I heard of crabs was while reading his stuff.

Nah! - there was no scratching in the game! I’ve never read anything by Bukowski but I was ‘educated’ about the other kind of crabs by a chamber maid who worked in a hotel - yuck!
