Inspired by Advie’s great Cage matches threads I would like to have this big “versus” tournament between adventure games to finally determine which is “THE ONE” (of course that won’t mean that this game is the best game of all time, it just means it won the tournament Smile  )

This should be a long tournament and it would be great that as many members as possible take part in this game, so all of us can have fun and see what is some general “public opinion” about our beloved games when they are compared to our other beloved games Laughing

So to keep things more interesting and organized as in regular draws I’ll use a seeding system from the first round of 128 adventure games. For the seeding I’ll take liberty to use Top 100 All-Time Adventure Games as a ranking list, so the placement on that list will determine the seed of a game in question from number 1 - Grim Fandango up to 64 - The Book of Unwritten Tales.

Now there are two opened questions.
The first is to determine 28 more games that aren’t on this Top 100 list and for that I would ask you dear members to give your proposals and I think that by the beginning of the next week we would have additional games to add to the list of participants.

Second is a type of draw. I’m still not sure if there should be predetermined bracket that will be formed at the start of the tournament (where the lower seeded games would take over seeding of the defeated higher seeded)  or should we have a draw before the each new round (in that case seeding would be maintained until the end).
So please state your opinion about this too.

I hope this would be interesting to a lot of people here and that all of us can have fun.

The current list is (I added spoiler tag if someone maybe still doesn’t want to see The Adventure Gamers Top 100 list):

#100 – Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time
#99 – Nancy Drew: Curse of Blackmoor Manor

I have no game to add to that list, I just want to say that I’m bewildered by the choice for no.2, and how far from the top 10 The Curse of Monkey Island is. But, hey, the people have spoken. It’s a great idea, bring on the bracketin’!

There are some new great games which were made after AG Top 100 so it’ll be good to include them. I’ll write my propositions later when I have the time.

Yes, that was the main idea for that additional 28 games it leaves just enough space for some new great games that appeared in the meantime and maybe some older unfairly forgotten classics - text adventures for example.

I eagerly wait your propositions and thank you.
Also thanks Mr Underhill for your enthusiasm for this.

Happy to do this if you think it’s the best way, but it’s starting to look like we’re going to need a checkbox poll to whittle the new nominations down to 28, before we move on to the tournament brackets. I realize that sounds like an undertaking in and of itself, though. I’m not sure what the best way is to move speedily out of this potentially momentum-draining nominating process and into the brackets. What do you think?

(Edit: I just had an idea and sent it to you by PM so as not to distract from the thread.)

This tournament sounds fun! Laughing

The Journey Down
Dear Esther
Vanishing Of Ethan Carter

Want to see some other games on that list too but let’s hope that that they will get a voice from the people who have played them Smile
