Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Wednesday 12 November 2014
So many great moments. The mysterious intro with that guy who takes your book and gets killed by a dart (or so I thought ) is for me still one of the best game intros ever. You know from the start that Riven is a dangerous place and that makes exploration much more intense. Something that’s lacking in most Mystian games. Beautiful, relaxing but often sterile worlds without the menacing holograms of Gehn, the weird chair, the watch towers, the people running away from you, the prisoner who escapes from his cell. Brilliant.
I’m going for the pics of stuff that all Riven fans love. So I just had to post a screenshot of the sunners. The first ride and my first glimpse of the sunners are things I will never forget. (Guess tomorrow’s pic! ) Isn’t it great how you could scare them away them by approaching too fast or take it slowly instead and get a better look. I’d never seen anything like it.

I have played and replayed Riven more times than I can remember and I STILL didn’t knew it was possible NOT to scare the sunners!! Excellent picture of course.
The fact that there is always some gorgeous detail, even to those who consider themselves well-known to the Riven world is another proof of the game’s magnificence I guess…

I could have said the entrance to the Moiety Age. I could have said Gehn’s elevator. I could have even said the game’s grand finale (Star Fissure, etc).
But you can’t end this without posting a picture with Gehn himself singing “O Sole Mio”. You simply can’t.

Don’t get your hopes up, sorry. You always scare them away when you get too close. What I meant is that if you descend too fast they will go away instantly. If you take it step by step, they will settle again until your next step.

Hehe… maybe not. I have a pic of Gehn singing but I chose a different one. I’ll add a link to the easter egg.

Yes, you can get very close if you move slowly. I always thought that was such a neat bit of programming.
