Watching Dallas is one of my guilty pleasures.  My mom loved the old show and I would watch it with her as a kid.  We watch the new show together with my wife each week when it comes out.  That two page ad for Dallas Quest is awesome.  I would love to see a game done based on the new show that would be great.

The LA Law game looks interesting actually.  Is it a FMV game?  If so that pretty cool for 1992.  I would have been very excited about it had I known about it at the time.

LA Law is not FMV, it’s propably done with screenshots taken directly from the show:

It could have small FMV clips though, like the first two Tex Murphy games did.

Thanks for the link tomimt.  Looks like the game may have come out a little ahead of its time.  The concept would have made a good FMV games circa 96.

The marketing department obviously didn’t even bother to look at the game before making that ad… Tongue

A point well covered during the CCS AGCPT.

But I question the point of this thread. If the point is to show bad marketing, why isn’t there a critique by the author of each screenshot he provides telling us why he thinks this was a marketing error in judgment?

I’ve been involved in marketing, (not of games,) for well over 30 years. Most of the screenshots violate one of the major marketing rules. That is, there is no mention of why you should want to purchase the product. Is it softer? (toilet paper) Is it stronger? (garbage bags) Is it more efficient? (VW)

Or in the case of these screenshots, Is it the funniest game you’ll ever play? Is it the easiest interface you’ll ever use? Are the graphics the best you’ve ever seen? Et al.

While interesting, this is just a series of screenshots of ads and packaging without any useful commentary that tells us what is good or bad about the picture in question. This has the potential of being a really great thread. Still does, but needs relevant commentary to make it so.
