Lots of 1st-person FMV adventures with actors and cut scenes but apart from GK2 and Phantasmagoria 1 and 2 there are only a few 3rd-person ones with a human avatar walking through photographs or prerendered worlds. Toonstruck with Drew in a cartoon environment. The Rose Tattoo with no FMV cut scenes. Edutainment adventure Wrath of the Gods. And this obscure one: The Crystal Skull (1996), which is also something of an edutainment title.  Ancient Aztec country with its rich history, talking Olmec heads, parrots, owls and monkeys, unfriendly guards, an important quest, time travel. You even have the magic ability to shapeshift, just like in The Journeyman Project 3!

The guy in the loincloth on the left is the protagonist. I have my doubts about the authenticity of the many outrageous, cheap-looking costume party outfits of the mostly plump and unattractive NPCs, but I’m delighted the developers gave us Quetzcal’s athletic body to admire throughout the game.

I liked The Crystal Skull much more than I thought I would.  Cool

I used it in one of my quizzes… and it was only then that I discovered of its existence. It’s a “poor man’s” Journeyman Project - not because of its quality (I never played it), but because of its obscurity.

Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale

Yes, it has a lot in common with JP3. Which is the better of the two.

My mind immediately went to:

Harrison Ford probably would have prefered to star in this Crystal Skull game

LOL! I would have preferred that too. Would have been a totally different game though.

Probably, but George Lucas wouldn’t have preferred that. Lucas isn’t sorry.

Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
