Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Friday 2 May 2014
Opera Fatal (1996) is an edutainment game about music. You’ll learn about music notation, the Circle of Fifths and the Major and Minor keys, intervals and scales. You’ll also learn about the various composers of the Baroque (Bach, Vivaldi, Handel), Classical (Beethoven, Mozart), Romantic (Mendelssohn, Chopin) and Impressionist (Debussy, Ravel) eras and more.
Gameplay involves some inventory puzzles but is mostly trivia based, requiring that you answer questions about the information you learn as you play amidst a background story about a missing musical score that you need to recover. There is a bunch of classical music to listen to in the game as well.
If you play an instrument and are familiar with this type of music, the game is pretty easy. If you don’t and have no interest in such things I would guess that it might be rather tedious, but as I don’t fall in that group I could be wrong. Personally, I kind of liked it.
Do you speak German or there’s also an English version of Opera Fatal?
The bloody game and its ashtray (had) cost me a couple of (very valuable) points in MMFT.
P.S. I always loved the looks of this game.
