Hi,

My name is Nicola and I am currently studying Computer Games Design at Staffordshire University, for my final major project I am creating a graphic adventure games but before I can get cracking on that I need research; that is where you come in…

If you are willing to help me please could you fill in this questionnaire, it is quite long and is a bit repetitive but I would greatly appreciate it as it will help my project be the best it can be.

Thank you all in advance.

I have a question, Nikola. You define retro as games released pre 2000. Why, what is the difference, if any, with more recent games?

Some intriguing questions! It looks like you’re going for a deep analysis.

Just to confirm—I’ve played 39 adventure games that you’ve defined as retro—do you really want me to list all of them on the questionnaire?

I’m assuming that, for this list, you only want games played to completion.

Heh, I did that… Might have forgotten a few though, did most of it from memory.

There are too many “retro” adventure games I played, I only mentioned 10 or 12 of them %) The questionnaire took some time to answer even without those formalities, but it was fun!

Naming all games you have played was the hardest part. I at least forgot 5-10 games both “retro” and “modern” ones. Tongue

Am I the only one who don’t really have a different classification for old and new games? I just see adventure games. Like everything they have obviously evolved from the start and they’re still evolving. There has always been both good and bad ones.

I agree, and it was reflected in my answers. Tongue

Just an observation, but if I copy and paste into my browser’s address bar the link from Nicola’s original post in lieu of clicking on the link, this screen comes up. Seems kind of strange….

Thanks everyone, the only reason I defined what I considered ‘retro’ and ‘modern’ was for two reasons…

1. I needed to compare new and old styles of graphic adventure games so the logical things I saw to do was to take the golden era of graphic adventures (which according to the copious amounts of research I have done) ended around 2000.

and

2. The rules of my project state that unless it has already been predefined and I can reference that definition I need to define with reason and research everything and that included my two categories of graphic adventures (old and new would have worked just as well)

Sorry it confused so many of you.
