Here’s a greenhouse from The Guild of Thieves (1987), a text adventure by Magnetic Scrolls in which you play a thief, which is basically what you play in almost every adventure game ever made really, but this one is completely honest about its dishonesty in that you are a self-proclaimed thief looking to steal whatever treasures you can get your grubby paws on for personal profit. It was a pretty good game at the time.

That is very funny and very true.

Mmm.. spiders and cacti. Not the most favourable environment for a thief…

It’s a nightmare environment for someone with a (very unlikely) cocktail of arachnophobia and aichmophobia, actually.

I liked Guild of Thieves more than the other Magnetic Scrolls text adventures. Just one big treasure hunt and no story to speak of, like so many text adventures in those days. But make one mistake and you’re forced start all over again.
