Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Thursday 9 May 2013
is it the 7th guest then? but if so it wasn’t a 3rd person Adventure ? so didnt have the full control over it!
enlighten me please.
EDIT:uh the odds of posting late, didn’t see Uruboo’s
This game has gotten more flack than it deserves, imo. Yes, FMV hasn’t aged very well, but that doesn’t mean that this was a bad game per se. There were a few good puzzles, a couple of (predictable but fun) jump scares, and I really liked some of the FMV deaths in the game.
Roberta herself considers this her own best work. Personally, based on her games that I’ve played, I agree.
The truth can’t hurt you, it’s just like the dark: it scares you witless but in time you see things clear and stark. - Elvis Costello
Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
Everyone will have their own opinion as to what constitutes violence versus horror. To me this was a violent game, and I could care less about the FMV aspects.
Despite what she thinks, and despite its flaws, Dagger of Amon Ra gets my vote for the best of a very weak list of the Best of Roberta.

was that supposed to be an easter egg ... it appears one time at the whole game
If you watch old Dracula or Frankenstein movie today for the first time and you’ve been bombarded by plenty of modern horror movies, it’ll strike you as a little “bland”. That doesn’t take away anything of its quality. Similarly, Phantasmagoria is really a “triumph” in one step of gaming evolution, whether you consider it good/bad game.
I wouldn’t think of it as a classic horror game, nor there’s other genre than “horror” that describes it better. The reason I don’t think it’s a plain horror game is because you can, even though often in a “cheesy” way find some Poesque mystery, and even survival/thriller elements.

I’ll give you that. Providing “triumph” equals being brazen enough to charge $70+US for what you admit is a pretty cheesey game.

This game was refused classification in Australia. In order to play this game I had to use my dad’s credit card to buy the twin pack of Phantas 1+2 off the Sierra website some ten years ago.
That was a great conversation. “Daaaaad, can I please use your VISA for this game? No, no, it’s not pornographic….”
