Chrissie, thanks for the kind words and support! It really gives a nice boost of confidence to see your words.

Jdawg445, seems like you have some issues with us. Or not? Did we hurt you because we didn’t release the demo earlier? You jump to conclusions so fast and so easily that it’s really hard to have a normal discussion with you - as seen in the last few pages of this thread.

Fine, you don’t like the game. The, at the moment, 210 backers on Kickstarter think very very differently. In 14 hours we are almost 20% funded. Also, we received a ton of positive messages on social medias and in our mail boxes. People love Saint Kotar: The Yellow Mask.

You see those few comments on Steam as bad. Why would they be bad if they say they want to play the game and they like the prologue? Even if it’s not perfect and it has problems (perfect games don’t exist). And what about the good, positive comments and reviews on Steam? That form the vast majority, by the way.

We’d love to make a game that is perfect, but that is just not possible. You can’t expect to please everyone and this is not an ideal world - there are budgets, unexpected issues, and schedules.

Let’s be completely honest and transparent now. You know what our mistake was? Announcing the game too early, without the right knowledge to make a project like this. When we announced it we just had a great concept artist. We also worked remotely back then, and only in our spare time. The team that announced the game back then is long gone. Our real production began only a year ago. New team members came in and we started working in one place (we got ourselves an office). We cannot undone the mistakes from the past in terms of public relations but we can push harder to become better each day.

That period in the past was a great way, no matter how hard it was and how hard we landed on our heads, to learn game development. You have to pay the school, in one way or another. We paid it with our time, money and energy. Now we have a strong and established workflow and a good team. If you don’t want to give us a second chance by neat picking every single thing you find “unforgivable” (and it seems only by looking at comments on Steam?) then just cross the game and move on. Nobody is forcing you to like it. We’ll do fine on Kickstarter and in the end we’ll make a great full game.

No i dont have a problem with yall if you go back and look at my first post two pages ago I said I don’t like the voice acting and I don’t like the writing but I don’t want to keep being negative so I’m out and then Chrissie precedes to attack me over the next few messages so I’m going to defend myself. Honestly I just don’t think y’all have any idea of what y’all are doing, but I hope it turns out wonderful and that’s not hatred saying that. that is just an honest observation of watching how y’all handled your whole rollout campaign.good luck with saint kotar

I was one of the first ks backers today. Saint Kotar looks fantastic and I can see how much work, love and effort you have put to this project. I really like Gabriel Knight and Black Mirror references in your game. I wish you luck and I`ll follow the campaign regularly Smile

The campaign is almost 30% funded (at the time of writing this post) in 4 days. That’s a good start but we need your help to keep the momentum going on Smile

Visit the Kickstarter page and support us in any way you can, even by just getting the word out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/redmartyr/saint-kotar/

You can play the free prologue as well; the download link is at the top of the campaign’s page.

Let’s make this game together Smile  Heart

I tired the demo and unfortunately didn’t feel that this game was really for me. Not saying it’s bad, it has good qualities and I wish it to be successful.

I was fine with the whole dream sequence beginning, thinking that after I wake up, things would “calm down” and I would be eased into the characters, setting and story. But there is no normalcy.

The nightmare seems to continue. I’m thrown into an unknown place for unknown reasons (yes the sister asked me to come but that’s not really an explanation) with a person that I have very strained relationship with (the history is briefly mentioned). I seem to be a religious fanatic who thinks everyone is out to get me.

I’ll use spoilers for the rest just in case.

Both characters are very much on the edge from the first second. One person is already missing. Someone’s been creeping in the house I’ve been sleeping. The whole town is super weird.

There was a weird ritual last night that wasn’t shown to the player. In addition to the missing person, the ritual and the mysterious historical figure Kotar there are strange radio signals, a forest no one is supposed to go to, a dead person and what else… Basically this all is revealed to me by one woman, while the story seems to change constantly. First there is no clue where the missing person is. Then she’s at some lake. Then it seems that she was the one who was killed last night. The protagonist himself also seemed to think someone ran into the forest.

That’s just too much information for the first hour of the game, especially when lots of the information contradict itself.

What I would like is starting with the sense of normalcy, slowly diving deeper into the weird. Growing suspension. And the same with the information. Does the player really need to know all of that stuff during the first minutes of the game? Wouldn’t it be better to reveal places and events one by one, letting the player explore some of those things themselves?

I feel like I’ve been thrown in to a pot of horror and someone keeps stirring. so none of it really makes sense. Instead of entering Twin Peaks, I ended up in Silent Hill with permafog. And I guess it’s fine if that was what the game was going for. But it isn’t what I want.

Hi, thank you for your detailed and honest feedback. With the opening (the prologue) of Saint Kotar we have deliberately chose to take that strategy/approach. We wanted the players to feel tense, uneasy, in fear, from the moment they step in. A lot of the players liked this. This doesn’t mean the whole game is going to be like that - things will slow down, they have to because of the pacing and the structure of the story. But if we did what you suggests we should had, doing thing slowly and gradually revealing the weirdness etc, we feel like in that case we would tell an ordinary story that was recounted thousands of times already. Don’t get us wrong now, we also like the openings you suggested.  Smile

Yes, I was a bit disappointed that the game wasn’t really aimed for players like me (seeing comparisons to Gabriel Knight and all). I could notice right away that it was much more horror than what’s my cup of tea. The “falling-into-the-abyss” feeling is not necessarily a bad thing, I’m not surprised that many people really like it.

Though I still think it is a bit confusing to be introduced so many places of interest right at the start without being able to check any of them out. The forest, lake and castle, while most of the town itself is still unexplored. But I am one of those people who really prefer to have the game world open up to me piece by piece, so that I can have a coherent map in my mind.

It is possible I will still check the game out when it’s finished but I am quite picky with horror games, so it will depend on the reviews.  Smile

Appear in Saint Kotar - Become the asylum’s watchman!  Heart Eyes

“Eyes and Ears of the Asylum” - Kickstarter exclusive reward, limited to 1 backer Wink

The tier, among other things, gives you the right to appear in the game as the asylum’s watchman, a mysterious and frightening person that keeps the unwanted visitors on the outside.

We’re currently 45% funded with nearly 500 people who believe in this project. Still 17 days to go, we can make it to the basic goal, but why stop there? Let’s push higher to achieve stretch goals and make this game longer and richer (you’ll get the chance to play with Viktoria the night before the events in the prologue) and available to a wider audience (console ports, localization to other languages).

We are almost halfway through the Saint Kotar Kickstarter campaign, in every possible sense: 46% funded with 16 days to go. So we have decided to celebrate and gift all of our 500+ amazing backers by revealing some of the previously hidden stretch goals!

Yes, as you can see in the infographic below, the console ports are very close to the base goal! This should be a great news as many have asked us about the consoles version.

More in detail:

- Project funded: the game Saint Kotar gets developed and released in 12 months after the Kickstarter campaign ends.
- Console ports: the game Saint Kotar is ported to Nintendo Switch, Playstation and Xbox platforms. Backers who pledged to Early Key to Heaven and Key to Heaven tiers and above choose for which platform they want the game key.
- Backstory DLC + Partial VO: all backers get for free the Saint Kotar Backstory DLC that gives the chance to play the events that happened the night before the events in the prologue, in the shoes of Viktoria. In addition, the game gets partial voice acting.
- Full VO + Dev Commentary: the game Saint Kotar gets full voice acting and the developers commentary throughout the whole game (switched on or off by choice).

More stretch goals will be revealed as the visible ones get achieved.

The full game Saint Kotar will have up to 20 hours of gameplay time and over 70 explorable locations, created with care and improved in every segment upon the already available prologue Saint Kotar: The Yellow Mask.

Back the project, make Saint Kotar become a reality: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/redmartyr/saint-kotar/
