Lucas Arts “favorite” lists

I see a lot of people point to Sam & Max as overrated. I wonder why that is. I love the characters but I would agree that it’s the weakest among its Lucas Arts contemporaries. One possible explanation that I’ve seen advanced is that Sam & Max satirizes Americana and thus might appeal more to Americans. However, much the same can be said about DotT (e.g. George Washington and the kumquat tree Grin ) and DotT is (almost) universally liked. (For all it’s worth, I love the Sam and Max animated series and while I found the first two Telltale S&M seasons somewhat average, the third one blew me away.)

eventually when someone is being asked to choose the worst (i.e) from a list of items with almost the similar standards and must give an answer!.. the answer will be only comparative ,
if i asked who is the best player in Barca 80% will say Messi and 20% will think its not Messi not because he not really the best but they got tired of everyone pointing at him and wanna give some credits (or be differentiated) for some other to Xavi or Inesta .

and if you asked later on not at the same day about the overrated one you will be amazed that some people who had chosen Messi as the best player will consider him overrated because that term 99%  defines not your opinion for other opinions that goes beyond reality and truth (as how love is blind) and would describe him as the best player came in (the History) a 100 year when he is still have ore than 7-8 years at least that no one know how hey will end.

also when a player think of Sam & Max with three late seasons released by telltale that neglected Grim Fandago and Day of the Tentacle for making two more seasons for the sam Title player will think its as toooooo much too much credits had given to one game more than Lucasarts itself would have had given.. imagine this ; go back in time before telltale S%M release ask the same Question and you will find a total different answer about Sam & Max

P.S:LuscasArts had about 10 IPs only with several sequels for some , i mean at the Favorite list its no strange if you mentioned ALL and when you miss or dislike one it will be as Issue/a Hassle as Movieman was Surprised he didn’t mention 2 titles as if he must give every Tiles its credits

My guess is that almost everyone will find something of interest in DOTT - you have a nerd, deranged character, rock lover… There’s a bit of history, and then there’s the mad scientist cliche and human enslavement parody.

I would have to replay it to be sure, but I recall Sam & Max having somewhat different writing and humor, specifically that the target audience might be more zany old comics and crime show lovers.

Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale

I am a total outsider here. I can’t answer any of the questions. I was never a big fan of LucasArts games. I started a few and completed none. Maybe “none of the above” is an answer in its own right.

Favourite music: Monkey Island series.

Name an Adventure came after 1999 that felt Like Lucas Arts:

Daedalic Entertainment, Pendulo Studios, Alchachofa Soft, King Art Games, Autumn Moon and Telltale Games are all gaming companies that have graced us with amazing titles, after 1999, that every Lucasarts fan should check out.

My favourite non-Lucasarts adventure however, is from 1997 and is called Duckman: The Graphic Adventures of a Private Dick, also known as Duckman: Legend of the Fall, developed by Illusions.
The game was made with an improved version of the engine that was used in Beavis and Butthead in Virtual Stupidity, another fantastic adventure game and a must play for Lucasarts fans.

Duckman is based on the little known, yet wonderful animation show of the same name, which in turn was based on the underground comic created by Everett Peck. Sadly, it never reached the fame it deserved, it had a very limited distribution and is one of the rarest CD-rom games of all time. Arguably, one of the absolute funniest games in the adventure genre, if you haven’t heard of Duckman before, think something along the lines of Donald Duck on coke and Viagra. Crazy

As far as the voice-acting goes, we are talking top ten material. In the Tv-Series, Duckman was brilliantly voiced by Jason Alexander (Seinfeld). In the game however, Michael Gough II does his voice, and he does not disappoint; Michael is simply amazing. Not only is his voice-acting in itself world class, but so is his impression of Jason Alexander, making his performance all the more impressive. Furthermore, the cast includes Dweezil Zappa (son of Frank Zappa) and the man himself: Tim Curry, a marvellous actor known by adventure gamers as the voice of Gabriel Knight in Sins of the Fathers and Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned, aswell as the voice for Count Nefarious in Toonstruck.

Fun puzzles, logical - once you get into Duckmans frame of mind, and though they are a bit on the easier side, there are a couple (somewhat) tricky ones aswell. Experienced adventurers probably won’t find it very challenging though, but the music, humour and all else should more than make up for it. The only truly negative things that could be said about the game is about its limited distribution, that its heavily underrated, it’s too short (about the same length as Full Throttle), only a few people are aware of its existence, and getting it to run in Vista or Win7 can be a bit of a puzzle in itself.

If your’re a fan of the animation series, or like obnoxious humour, beautiful 2D handpainted graphics, humourous puzzles, hilarious characters and dialogues, or just in general like Lucasarts-style adventures, you owe it to yourself to play this game. It’s easily one of the best of all time in the cartoon/comedy genre, its quality being right up there with Lucasarts.

Sorry for derailing a bit here, but Duckman is a game that deserves to be played by the people who’d appreciate it, and so I take it upon myself to create some awareness around its existence Tongue

OBS! If you wanna play it, but are having problems getting it to run on your computer, let me know, and I’ll be happy to provide a step by step guide.

Duckman: Can you believe it? Five hundred bucks for a parking ticket?
Cornfed Pig: You parked in a handicapped zone.
Duckman: Who cares? Nobody parks there anyway, except for the people who are supposed to park there and, hell, I can outrun them anytime.

You can find game reviews in most unexpected places.

Tongue Just kiddin’ - I’ve heard of Duckman before, and now I’m even more eager to try it. Also, now I understand why a particular forum user also happened to like it Grin

P.S: i love and played all lucas Games are great but they are so little . and from those little there were 3-5 up to Sierra’s Standards .

Let me put this straight once and for all. I have apsolutely NO desire to start another “war” considering which was the best company (there were numerous threads for that). I also have absolutely no idea why someone who doesn’t like a thread’s title or is uninterested about it, posts it while at the same time he is not contributing with his ideas and answers to the thread (this is for you, rtrooney). Fien, I agree with you completely. Advie, you think Sierra was best, I think Lucas Arts was. However, we both contributed to each others thread by posting our lists and opinions about the questions asked. I respect that. But you should have in mind that there is NO need every damn time someone posts something about Sierra or Lucas Arts to post messages proving one company’s superiority over the other. You could praise rtrooney all the time (so could I have done for other people posting their love for Lucas Arts. The difference was we all contributed with our answers and not just with a hate post like rtrooney.), but the fact that you think there is there is a continuous “war” is beyond me. I repeat myself. Whoever wants to do something like that, there were polls in previous threads in these forums. This is a thread for whoever wants to post his/her answers to a posted list and contribute creatively with their opinions and ideas (and yes Advie, you do that as well). Whoever doesn’t want to, then he/she shouldn’t do so. End of Story.

Thanks for the review Dag! Smile I have heard many (positive) things about duckman, but I never managed to get my hands on it. Perhaps now is the time…

EDIT: Favorite music: I’ll have to choose between Full Throttle and Grim Fandango.

Hehe, you are very welcome Smile I didn’t really plan on writing a review, if I had, I’d replay the game while taking notes and go into further detail about the story/gameplay etc., but my mention of the game did end up being quite lengthy^^
