Question for Carol Reed fans

I just finished my first Carol Reed game, Profound Red.  I enjoyed it, although I found it very easy.  Are most Carol Reed games about on par with each other or are the most recent ones the better ones?  Cold Case Summer, according to the review here, was the first to add a hotspot finder, which to me is essential in a game like this… Should I start there and continue up to the present?

Thanks!

I’ve heard some people say they like the newer ones better, or that a particular game was the “best Carol Reed yet” - but that is not an opinion I share. Personally, I do not find a large difference between the early and more recent games, except in the quality of the photography which is less impressive in the early games partly due to the graphics filter used.

In terms of difficulty, these aren’t hard games and I don’t recall having problems finding hotspots. If you find them necessary then by all means work your way backwards, but if you enjoy these games I think you would be missing out if you stopped at Cold Case Summer, since some of my favorites were the earlier installments.

I agree with Oscar, there really isn’t much difference between them, except for the filter used in the first couple of games. I was hesitant to play those at first because I didn’t like the look. When I eventually did, I quickly got used to it, and the stories and gameplay are worth it if you already like that kind of games. Personally I don’t find hotspot finder that essential, although I do use it often now that it’s there, but I don’t remember having any problems with it being absent earlier.

Personally, I’ve never seen them on sale for less than the price at release. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened though!  Laughing

The newest game, The Fall of April is out now, Has anyone played it yet, and if so what were your impressions?

Also, will there be a mention of its release on the AG main page?

I didn’t think much of it, except for the nice scenery. If you do play it, make sure you pay more attention than I did to the confusing plot, because none of it made much sense to me.

There weren’t many interesting locations this time around either. It feels like we’ve had the same game every year for quite some time and the inspiration’s running dry, so this might be the last year I will buy a new CR game, sadly.

Hi darthmaul, the developer for the Carol Reed games is just the one person. I think as the series has gone along the plots have got a little more intricate. I love the stories & the way that they are weaved into actual history/historical events in a fictional way + the photography is superb. You can usually click in all 4 directions to appreciate that.
You do have to pay a lot of attention to the plot but otherwise it’s like going on a virtual holiday to Sweden.      Smile

I finished The Fall of April and I thought it was quite good. The story was interesting and the way the plot developed was not as linear as in some of the other games. I enjoyed it and I will replay it soon.

I’m planning to play The Fall of April soon. Would whoever can do it move the two posts before mine (as a new, separate topic) to the more appropriate place (I suggest this one). Please.

The content of tsa’s post (if it remains in this thread) should go under spoiler tags, namely [ spoiler ] text [ /spoiler ].
Without spaces, of course.
