Good Inventory Puzzles with Focus on Adventure?

I’m having withdrawals here as I just finished Kings Quest 6 and loved every minute of its art, its sense of adventure and its puzzles. So now I’m looking for more. Specifically I’m looking for an adventure game with these characteristics:

1. Focus on good inventory puzzles (combining items, etc)
2. Focus on ADVENTURE and traveling to new lands
3. Puzzles to be adventure focused. Less about talking to people and running errands for them and more puzzles that have to do with defeating bad guys or cleverly escaping capture or trekking through perilous terrain.
4. This is gonna be a touch one, but I’m looking for that gorgeous art style that sierra used in the mid 90’s. Those amazing hand painted backgrounds and sense of wonder. Having said that, this isn’t a must. Just a bonus. I recently played the new King’s Quest series (2015) and that one part in chapter 5 that pays homage to this style… wow.

5. The tricky part of all of this is that I’ve played a good deal of the classics. All of the sierra and lucas games, plus Shannara, Master Lu, and more. I’ve never completed all the Quest for Glory games and love the style, but those are so light on inventory puzzles.

I know I"m making a tough request here, but if anyone can help me, it’s y’all.

Really appreciate it.

This is difficult, because you’ve probably played most of those, but here’s a list of games that would more or less fit:

The Book of Unwritten Tales 1 & 2 (both great; avoid Critter Chronicles)
The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav & Memoria (Satinav is fine, Memoria is excellent)
Death Gate
Dragonsphere
Flight of the Amazon Queen
The Legend of Kyrandia series (1 is mediocre, 2 is fine, 3 is trash)
Lost Horizon
Love You to Bits (on iOS/Android; a bit on the easier side, but some clever puzzle design, and sweet art)
Return to Mysterious Island (and most other games by Kheops Studio; they all have some great inventory puzzles)
Perry Rhodan: Myth of the Illochim (a.k.a. The Immortals of Terra)
Maybe the Runaway series? (1 is mediocre, 2 is awful, 3 is fine)
Maybe the Secret Files series? (1 is fine, 2 is OK, haven’t played the rest)
Ween: The Prophecy (if you’re a masochist)

Feel free to ask if you have specific questions about those.

I’m sure I’ll have questions about a lot of these, but how are the puzzles in the syberia series?

Also, which Sierra fan made game has the best inventory puzzles?

Well, not many games have the beautiful story of Syberia nor its sense of wonder.

Deck 13’s Haunted could fit the bill. There are a couple of dialogue puzzles but nothing particularly difficult or frustrating.

I think the key word here is “GOOD”.

how are the puzzles in the syberia series?

Contrived, trivial and boring, for the most part. You play those games for the graphics, not the puzzles.

The Feeble Files is even worse in that regard. It’s one of the worst games I’ve had the misfortune to encounter.

Disappointing. So Memoria has good puzzles and a good sense of adventure then?

I haven’t played Lost Horizon, but I get the impression it might fit the bill!

Have you played King’s Quest AGD remakes ? They are pretty awesome.

Syberia puzzles aren’y really good, to be honest, and that’s coming from someone who loves the game.
There are very few inventory items, and most of the time you’ll just be running back and forth in gorgeous locations.
The story and atomsphere are great though.

All the Daedalic games (The Whispered Word, the Day of the Rabbit, Chains of Satinav and Memoria) are pretty good classic inventory-based adventure games with very nice graphics.

Otherwise all of Kurufinwe’s suggestion fit the bill, as well as Simon the Sorcerer.
