Hey, at the moment you can vote over on AGS, which seems to be the home of traditional point & click adventures, first of all for the Maggies which involves playing (or ‘experiencing’ 12 very short games (available absolutely free) & posting your top 3. You have until Saturday 10th February, so if you have time here & there to spare please try these games….....from small acorns large oak trees grow!

Secondly, you can also nominate any of these for the AGS Awards although there are also a lot more games to consider for those including Captain Disaster: Death Has a Million Stomping Boots & Neofeud although I don’t think you’re expected to play all of the eligible games just to nominate? The closing date for nominations is also Saturday 10th February.
If you love traditional point & click adventures please help to support the budding developers over on AGS by at least trying some of their games & nominating them if you like them - most are free or very inexpensive!  Smile

I’ve tried quite a few games & I’ve found nearly all interesting & very entertaining!      Smile

Looks like fun, though I may well not have time to play them. Looks like they’ve changed the deadline to the 21st of February now!

Thanks for giving these a shout-out Chrissie!

For the AGS Awards no, you are not obligated to play every single game - if memory serves this year there are 107 eligible games, so very few people (if anyone) will have played all of them.

There are some real gems among the MAGGIES entries too.  For clarification these are the 12 monthly winners of the MAGS contest, where the challenge is to build a game around the given theme in a month or less, without relying on any pre-made assets. It’s surprising what some devs have managed to make in just a month!  (Although as you allude to, some / most of the games will be very short.)

That’s just for the Maggies & I may well have mistakenly got the date wrong in the 1st place Phlebas!
I don’t think any of the entries for that took more than an hour each to play most being a lot shorter & interesting to play when you don’t have a lot of time - as CaptainD has said:

Obviously delighted that Captain Disaster got 7 nominations, and that AGS Cycles got a nod for best non-AG.  Unexpected at the Rising Star getting a nom for Best Music / Sound was nice too - I did the SFX for that game, though the nom would have been far more to do with Eric’s awesome music score.

Very happy to see games from lots of dev friends in the mix too, especially Legend of Hand, Neofeud and A Tale of Two Kingdoms: Deluxe Edition getting multiple nominations.

Actual voting will be from 13th February till 7th March, with the awards ceremony soon after that (to be voted on by the AGS community).

Thanks posting that CaptainD! I had kept looking-out for the short-list of nominations as & when I had time but missed it when they were announced!
I’m a little disappointed that a few games I nominated didn’t make it & have a few games to catch up with although I won’t be voting in all categories…..what do I know about what’s good programming or not?????  Laughing

Thanks CaptainD - I submitted a fair amount of nominations of which quite a few aren’t included - is that a full list you posted?

I’m also very disappointed that an older (commercial game) should be included due to it’s update & the one that’s currently got the most votes! It just seems a tad unfair?

Yes that’s the full list.  To be nominated, a game needs a minimum of 5 votes in a particular category, AND it needs to be one of the 5 games with the MOST votes in that category.  So a game could have had 6 or more votes and still missed out if there were 5 games with more votes.  Certainly there were some good games that didn’t get a nomination, but with 104 titles to choose from, I guess that’s inevitable.

As for the game you’re talking about… in retrospect yes, it does seem a little odd.  I guess it was counted as an entirely new entry (I can’t actually remember if there’s anything other than voice acting added.)  Since eligibility is determined by date of entry into the AGS games database, I’m guessing it only made it due to being added as a completely new entry - if the old entry had simply been updated it would not have been eligible as the release date would have been years ago.
