Adventure games for 7-10 year olds?

My daughter is 7 years old, and I’d like to find some quality adventure games for Windows that she can play without my assistance. We’ve tried the Pajama Sam/Spy Fox/Putt-Putt games, which she likes, but the interfaces are usually lousy and the voice acting is terrible. Any suggestions for good games? Games without voiceovers are fine (and probably even preferred)

I would say the King’s Quest games, maybe.

at that age, my children and grandchildren liked Torin’s Passage, Kings Quest 7 and Simon the Sorcerer.

I was playing Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle and Sam & Max at that age so have to recommend those Grin

Broken Age and Nelly Cootalot could be winner choices too..

I’ll second Ahenobarbus.

I’d also add Kind’s Quest 7 to the mix, as it’s probably the most kid player friendly of the lot. The rest of the series might be a tad unfair to a 7-years old to play alone, thanks to dead ends and multiple ways to die.

you are alll wrong!, you choose games of the kinda suitable stories for children but without thinking of the capability of the 7-10 years old kid, to progress at them, like you would might better have chosen things like; emerald city conditional, EcoQuest: The Search for Cetus, Father Frost…etc
maybe Minecraft was the only suggestion that goes right here.

The new King’s Quest is a fairy tale that is fitting for kids of that age and has modern controls.

Seven-year olds adore the cute and lovable little robot in Machinarium. But they will need help with some of the puzzles. Playing together is fun! Also Samorost and Botanicula by the same developers.

Deponia.

I love the Deponia series, but the humor, sarcasm, protagonist and the very hard puzzles are totally unsuited for a seven-year old girl.

PS: Lilly Looking Through is als great to play together.

I’d say the same about the Emerald City Confidential game that Advie suggested—especially if the 7-year-old is a fan of the Oz book series. I’d hate to be the one to have to explain why Princess Ozma is suddenly the bad guy, why the other characters are perturbations of how they were depicted in the books, or why Oz is essentially a police state in the game. “Emerald City Confidential” is an “Alternate Oz” story

(sometimes called “Dark Oz”)
better understood and appreciated by people older than 7-10.

For something I’d recommend, maybe “Tales of Cosmos”. It reminded me of Samorost, partly because of the planets in outer space theme. You play alternately as a dog and a monkey, each having different abilities, so you swap between them to solve puzzles.

Lily Looking Through was charming.

Why not start with the top of the classics? The first two Monkey Island games are family games at best, and the special editions make them even more kids-friendly. I’d also recommend first two Broken Sword games; despite some grim moments, they are very light-hearted and sunny games with wonderful graphics and very catchy stories/atmosphere.

After reading some of the idiotic recommendations in this thread I wonder if people have any idea who and what a seven-year old girl is.

7 years olds shouldn’t play video games.
