Melancholic adventure games
I’m in the mood for a melancholic adventure game - any recommendations please? Syberia and Syberia II are pretty melancholic and I love those.
Thanks
Hmmm… you might like To the Moon.
Now playing: ——-
Recently finished: don’t remember
Up next: Eh…
Looking forward to: Ithaka of the Clouds; The Last Crown; all the kickstarter adventure games I supported
The Dig
Loom
Dragonsphere
Dreamweb
I remember Keepsake being melancholic at times especially the ending, but I also remember it being a chore at times so be advised.
Keepsake, The Whispered World, Eternally Us (short)...
Sokal’s games also
Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale
King’s Quest VII
Some nice ideas there, thanks folks.
The best game in this category is without a doubt Gray Matter.
NP: A Link Between Worlds, Beneath a Steel Sky and Vampyr
Overclocked is very melancholic imo.
I think that Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is one of the most melancholic adventure games of all time - especially because of the soundtrack. GK II has very melancholic moments as well.
Now playing: GreedFall, Control
Recently finished: Telling Lies, The Sinking City
The Longest Journey, and most definitely the sequel Dreamfall. Sanitarium is too.
Currently Playing: Chicory: A Colorful Tale
damn, one must define what a melancholic game stands for. i guess it depends on the player so it’s hard to give recommendations.
The recent game which made me pretty melancholic was the Blackwell series. But as I said it’s hard to describe a game with that kind of term. Hell, I can name 70 percent of the adventure games and they can all have the melancholy vibe in them.
I’d say try Darkfall as well. That game should fit the bill nicely.
I enjoy playing adventure games on my Alienware M17 r4 and my Nintendo Switch OLED.
Chains of Satinav.
The last third of Mission Critical is very poignant. I would say some sequences in Zork Nemesis as well, though I think it has more to do with its outstanding soundtrack.
Text adventures are probably way off the mark, but both Trinity and A Mind Forever Voyaging (especially its ending) deserve mention.
Other than that, Loom was a terrific suggestion but I can’t think of any other games right now with a persisting sense of melancholy.

I found Whispered World pretty melancholic. Edna as well by the time you beat the game. All these Daedalic games lol.
I’m almost done with A New Beginning and find the tone to be melancholic as well. You know, end of the world and all…
