Avatar size and format

When uploading an avatar, it says the PNG format is supported, but any PNG image I’ve tried to get below 100x100 pixels is well over 15kb. Has anyone actually managed to upload a PNG avatar? Why is the size limit so incredibly small?

Mine are all jpegs since the free graphics program I use to modify them doesn’t accept pngs.

In my case, converting to JPG degrades image quality by removing the transparency. I’m just wondering why set the PNG size limit to a tiny 15kb when that’s too small for an image with transparency?

Sure. Many. And you know I’ve uploaded LOTS of avatars.  Tongue
My current Anna.png is 73 x 87 and 14.5 kb.

Tweaked the settings a bit, you can have an avatar of 25KB now

Can’t you save in the png-8 format to reduce the file size? Or does that not support transparency either?

Sometimes you need to clear your cache before changes become apparent.
Reloading the webpage with Ctrl+F5 should do the trick.

Can’t change my avatar. Error message:
An error was encountered while attempting to assign your image

What could be the problem? Size and pixels are within the limits.

I keep trying to update my avatar with another one within the limits (100x100), and it says that the avatar updated successfully, but then I get my old avatar back. What could be the problem?

No one interested in fixing this?

If you refresh a page where you posted with your previous avatar, the new one should appear.

It seems to work now. When I did it before, I refreshed many times and it didn’t update.
