The ongoing gay marriage debate - have your say, mind your manners

True—plenty of non-married people (gay or straight) have adopted kids….People just like to bring it up because they’re stretching for reasons to be against “gay marriage.”

‘Reasons’ other than raw, unfiltered, religiously-based disapproval, that is. But, as a rule, that’s just a matter of tactics. The anti-equality crowd (represented by people like Brian Brown and Tony Perkins) know that the kind of rhetoric that was unremarkable in the ‘70s and ‘80s would these days be perceived as outrageously bigoted and animus-driven by most people (including a great many religious folk). So it gets coded as ‘concerns’ about the supposed harm to children (as if same-sex couples haven’t already been raising families for a good long while) and ‘redefining’ marriage (and who is going to care about that other than lazy lexicographers?) in an effort to draw people into the anti-equality camp who otherwise would be pushed away if they heard what they really think.

Or at least that’s how it used to be. The coded language and dog-whistles aren’t working as well as they once did, so the kind of rhetoric from the Anita Bryant glory days is making a comeback. (Although, in a lot of ways, it never really left.)

I dont see harm either on the contrary same sex couple raised childs who free from certain freudian complexes can develop better sexual relationships on emotional base than hets.
You see human evolution goin this way with a price of course.

Not sure what you’re trying to say. Are you implying that children raised by same-sex couples are more likely to be homosexual than children otherwise would? If so, that is wrong. There’s nothing in experience to suggest that; and as far as the causes of the various sexual orientations are concerned, the most recent scientifically credible theory is that epigenetics is involved. Specifically, the theory is that conditions in the womb affect how genes express themselves. And not just in regards to sexual orientation. If true, then of course sexual orientation really is something one is born with rather than acquired somehow during childhood or even later.

(A would-be clever person might at this stage claim that Jason Collins disproves this theory because he has a straight twin. The answer to that is that since twins don’t always have the same handedness, for example, then they don’t necessarily have the same sexual orientation.)

So if you are worried that same-sex child rearing will result in an ever-increasing homosexual population and eventually human extinction, that’s simply not going to happen.

But if I am misunderstanding you, then…never mind!

Besides which, gay people are perfectly capable of reproducing themselves. It just takes a little more work and determination. Children are very much possible for gay people (but not unwanted children).

This just in: a study of the psychological adjustment of children adopted by gay and by straight parents has just been published. It bears emphasizing that the study includes actual same-sex couples, unlike the fraudulent Regnerus ‘study’ and all so-called ‘fatherless’ studies (all of which examine broken homes and then extrapolate, or are misused to extrapolate, to same-sex households). The full report is only 12 pages long, including endnotes, so even for a nonspecialists it’s not all that hard to wade through.

You mean if, of course. And a same-sex divorce should be handled the same as any different-sex is divorce. Marriage equality must include divorce equality. But until the former is achieved, the latter is going to be a problem.
