Is the game already out? Though it was still in Alpha, do you need a key to get in or something?

It is still in alpha, and it’s free—you only need an Arma II (Combined Operations) key.

I personally love the concept of Day Z, and have played through a few reincarnations myself. The execution, however, is still too rough around the edges, and the Arma engine doesn’t help. I decided to wait for the Arma 3/standalone/at least a beta version.

EDIT: The standalone version has just been announced.
