Watchdogs super downgrade: Real or not

Its widely praised because Bamco spent more than million on marketing, so maybe press f**ks got their share, i too am 80% done, beyond 4 primal bosses(yeah thats a huge achievement),but have to call spade a spade.
PS3 demo at expos and Beta looked more close to initial reveal.
thats why compared to Aliens, they changed it in last moments, maybe to stable or
optimization, that why called it bait and switch Tongue.

Same case with wDogs i guess, they showed scripted demo , with preset everything on
who knows how many Graphic cards and after putting all AI and stuff they got to tone down
evrything.

Talking about watchdogs, yeah its nowhere close to e3 demo, worse than GTA5

latest footage

On other hand, tried a little SecondSon at my pals crib, amazing particle effects,
that feels like something nextgen , it almost particle porn in 1080p.

I think PS4 customers got their first killerapp.

Edit:

Great , looks like downgrade campaign is being set in motion Smile

I would not be getting my hopes up if i was you, chances are both Wdogs and
Drksouls2 PC ver goiing to be not what were advertised at debut.

And sometimes you get sexy version on consoles like MGSV, whose PC release is not
in sight. Wink...too bad master race found begging to kojima at expos.

Highly doubt that. PC is the too go to version for the game if you want visuals. The developers said so especially when the original gameplay was on the PC. But if its like Dark Souls 1, where its best played with a controller, then I still don’t have a problem.

From Gaffer

“They’ve demoed the game on ps3. I’ve played it on a regular ps3 (not a devkit) looking just like the first video. I played it myself and the console was just sitting on a table (system menu fully accessible). No smoke and mirrors bullshit.

I don’t think they’ve ever shown the PC version, to be honest. Seemed to be entirely ps3”.

Well then if thats the case, then there is a lot of lying going around. Ps3? Really? They must of lied about the next-gen previews then.

FROM software’s answer to this was as expected - the game ran like shit with the lighting.

“The early builds that the screenshots came from were playable but only just so,” the source said. “The game was not in a state where it could be sold at that point. I strongly suspect that they were focusing heavily on delivering a top-notch experience on PC and underestimated the challenges the new systems would pose on PS3 / Xbox360.”

“I sincerely don’t think they intended to deceive, but in the end they sacrificed a huge amount of graphical fidelity at the very end of development because they couldn’t resolve the framerate in any other way.”

The footage and trailers From Software used, it did with best intentions, unaware of the sacrifice it would later have to make, the source propositioned.

“The game would have been much worse without the change (as in, many would call it unplayable and broken.)”

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

That aint the issue, issue is that they were showing all the footage as PS3 one,
PS3 Beta weeks ago had all those lighting, which we played, there are comparison pics already, lighting and textures are gutted in final and like Colonial marines we got gutted game.

Joke is on FS and Bamco because it took them 6 weeks before release to realize that.

Nah, just that its awfully convenient to use bullshots and cock footage as false advertising.

Cock and bull it is.

Nomad, version from version differs a lot.Since it was about a game still in development its not unreasonable that one version plays ok but then when other things get incorporated into the build other things get changed, downgraded, upgraded or whatever. They could have shown an earlier working build in the PS3 Beta,Beta being the key word here.

They shown and we played Beta ON ps3, and then final version was gutted.
When was the last time beta/aplhas implied that final version will be gutted down
the road.
Normally they are improved upon.

And FS/bamco are incompetent in that department, it took one guy on neogaf to fix resolution and textures in Darksouls1 PC which Bamco couldnt, yeah Neogaffer and yeah on PC.
The PC release of DS1 was crap on release, shit textures and all.
So no, not all PC versions aint all that magical on final release, i also
remember GTA4, lanoire, AC etc. were called as shitty ports.

Edit:

Look at the big picture, the shoutback is to give message to devs that false
advertisement like this is crap practice and will make devs atleast to rethink.

It can become normal practice and then there will be no turning back.

Playing a beta ON ps3 doesn’t change tha fact that it’s still a beta. And no it doesn’t mean things have to improve(it is the goal but not always the result). If they didn’t make it quick enough to show a version close enough to the final version they couldn’t have canceled it,and while what they did might not have helped publicity they still wouldn’t choose premature bad publicity over the possibility of maybe succeeding later on.Anyway i’m not familiar with Dark Souls or any of FROM software’s other games,so i’m not disagreeing with you on how good they actually are.I’m just telling you no firm and especially not a firm that has just two(including DSII) games released on PC can know all problems from the get go.

And seriously it’s not that weird, they specialize on consoles so I’m not all that surprised.Japan has a much better familiarity with consoles than it does with PCs.And I do agree it’s not an iron rule that PC versions are always better but they usually are.GTA4 and LA Noire played very well for me so I’m not complaining.

If it becomes normal practise it will show in their sales. They can’t maintain this long enough. Many times decisions are made due to budget concerns or publisher’s ideas. Not always the fault of the developer. But in anyway it WILL show in reviews, sales etc.

1. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=452299

Google lanoire pc port problems or gta4 pc port problems.

2. It wont show in sales if consumers will accept everything without
questioning anything, just like xb1 DRM drama, it needed such a strong social media campaign, still there were people defending xb1 stance just like you defending this case. And those defenders are the ones that damage gaming scene and propagate such shitty practices.

So we have to callout.

Bottomline, i am not willing to accept it. If you have to show preview then show
what will be final version like or dont show at all, there is no need for prerelease
footage or anything.

Like I said, played pretty well for me,and no issue whatsoever on all 3 of them(including the EFLC as well) which is why *I* ‘m not complaining.

DRM wasn’t just in Xbox.

It will affect sales since even legitimate customers had problems due to DRM.It was a double edged sword. But it doesn’t mean the callout is without merit.

Anyway I’m not trying to defend their gutting the project.I’m just saying it’s not as conspiratorial as you think it is.Many times its the publisher who’s pulling the strings.See just how many of the games on Kickstarter have delayed. Now imagine that when a publisher is in the way they’re not gonna accept this.So most times they’ll go forth with the game.Do you remember how incredibly buggy Gothic 3 was?It took 12 patches to fix the memory leaks,if you played for more than an hour without a blue screen of death it was a miracle. Most of the fault lied with the publisher though, since they went on with the release even if it was so painfully obvious it was buggy.A year later the developer announced separation from the publisher.Devs don’t succeed always, and not always on time. That’s what I’m “defending”.

Nah, i prefer actual gameplay masochism in Souls series rather than Dev incompetency and marketing masochism which you are advocating.
If Devs cant handle their shit , onus is on them should not the customers be victimized for that.

And yes i have pointed Bamco more than FS in my posts. Most people dont know but it ook
1 year of polish in Demonsouls and that was mostly done by Sony.

If tims, JJs or any other Adv game or other project dear to you had suffered the same event, you would have caused shitstorm too.

2)If Devs cant handle their shit , onus is on them should not the customers be victimized for that.

1)though i also pointed out that any problems in Souls were due to incompetency(ok maybe a little too strong for this case) but the fact is that 2 out of 62 games were released in PC….all the rest were console releases, yeah not so surprising they had problems with that.

2)You are negating yourself on your own..nearly…the fact that customers are being victimized is not just due to dev incompetence but marketing masochism like you said.Games usually are made on a budget from a publisher which means that in the end they get the final say in this, since they are the ones throwing money into something that hasn’t still produced revenue. If they have set a release date(maybe close to xmas) and/or paid a shitload in marketing they won’t back down even if it’s the right choice. One example being Jowood.

Some times its not so much incompetence but the fact that designers got too ambitious and things went haywire due to entropy. But in any case the last say is the publisher’s.They are the ones deciding to ship now or to delay.

And this is one reason why so many devs went Kickstarter.Because they cut out the publisher and deal with you directly. That way they can give relative release dates, meaning they can go over the date if things go haywire. No strict deadlines and no publisher deciding things about how your project should be,giving you reason to cause a shitstorm.
