Unless, of course, it proves such a success that it becomes a major customer for the screen manufacturer or even becomes one itself—and my worry is that given the current resolution it won’t be able to achieve critical mass.

Edit: and here is a great consumer review (be sure to read comments too): http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1btne8/rift_and_vr_first_impressions/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Great review, thanks for linking it. People really don’t seem to mind the resolution too much, which is encouraging. I’m really looking forward to all the weird little indie games exploring what you can do with VR.

In other news, Thunderbolt 2 is coming out which might be a good fit for future Rift generations with higher resolutions. I recall Carmack mentioning that even the current-gen Thunderbolt is too slow for transmitting high-res stereo images together with tracking information.

This is the same speed of development of anything else. This time people are just excited enough to make everything public.

I own 5 VR headsets, the last one I bought was $600 dollars, had a 42 degree field of view and was the size of a pair of sun glasses.

They were amazing!

This VR system is supposed to have a 120 degree field of view! Staggering!

Sony Computer Entertainment head of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida is a big Oculus Rift fan, it turns out. “We’ve got a couple of the development kits, and I tried it out and I love it,” he told us in an interview this morning at E3 2013. Whether the PlayStation 4 will support it is another question. “No, it doesn’t,” Yoshida told us. Not yet, that is.

When we asked whether the company’s planning on offering support in the future, he only offered a “No comment” with a big smile. The picture of the retail Oculus Rift is potentially a bit clearer now, especially given this week’s addition of an HD version of the headset. We’ll be sure to keep on Sony about Oculus support on the PlayStation 4 as the year goes on.

Well.. that’s a big one Smile

Oculus just won Best Hardware at E3 2013 from the Game Critics Awards: http://gamecriticsawards.com/winners.html

With PS4 and XBoxOne as competition, that’s quite an achivement:)

There is supposed to be a sex adventure gaming in development for the Oculus Rift. I guess it is a matter of time before I buy one…

Don’t buy the DevKit. It is what it is, a devkit, a prototype. Wait for the consumer version if you are even considering it.
