No problem.  There were a couple of bands on your list with which I was completely unfamiliar, and several more that I recognized their names but could not think of a single song they had recorded.

You’re most welcome, Sir.

How about several?

Boston- More Than A Feeling
(My apologies for the quality of this video.  It’s the album version of the song dubbed over strangely blurry concert footage.  There used to be a much better live video of this song with correct sound available on YouTube, but it is currently blocked in my country.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2mij5AZB_c

Emerson, Lake, & Palmer- From The Beginning
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQVuD3jN_vc

One of my favorite songs of all time is Ghost Riders In The Sky, which has been covered in many different styles by practically everyone under the sun since it was originally recorded by Vaughn Monroe in 1948.  My two favorite versions of the song are done by Frankie Laine and by The Outlaws, but to my ears neither one is quite what the song could be.  If I were capable of mixing such things, I think the vocals from Frankie Laine’s version over the music of The Outlaws’ version would sound best.

Frankie Laine- Ghost Riders In The Sky

The Outlaws- Ghost Riders In The Sky
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFjqlx8eSfQ

While I’m not a big fan of “Southern Rock” per se, since I’m from Alabama it is sort of inescapable and there are a few songs in that genre I do like, such as:

The Outlaws- There Goes Another Love Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhVNSG6SB6s

The Marshall Tucker Band- Fire On The Mountain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qhl4UW_gFfY

Another all-time favorite song of mine is Darkness Darkness, originally recorded by The Youngbloods (best known for the hippie anthem get Together ), and covered by numerous other artists since it’s original release.  My preferred version aside from the original is by the Screaming Trees.

Screaming Trees- Darkness Darkness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY63_2s-OH8

I like lots of other songs, but I chose the ones I’ve listed because I thought they might be stuff you hadn’t heard before or at least with which you were not terribly familiar.  I hope you enjoy at least a couple of them.

Warning- People won’t have as much of a sense of humor about you putting an Alka Seltzer in your mouth then staggering into a restaurant while shouting “THE VIRUS HAS MUTATED!” as you’d hope they would.

Consider this: People say “Ewwww!!!” when they hear about a guy having a hairy bum or hairy back, yet every Teddy Bear ever made has had both a hairy bum AND a hairy back and nobody complains about them; In fact, people think Teddy Bears are adorable.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is already on the default Alabama car tag.

Trust me, that’s enough.

As I said earlier, I’m not a huge fan of “Southern Rock” as a genre, mainly because it is so pervasive down here that I probably suffer from overexposure to it, and no “southern Rock” group is more overexposed in Alabama than Lynyrd Skynyrd.  No cheesy, off-key, arrythmic bar band worth it’s salt would dare stagger on stage down here without beginning it’s set with “Sweet Home Alabama” and ending it’s set with “Free Bird”.  While both of those are perfectly good songs, I’ve been subjected to so many horrifyingly bad renditions of both over the years that I can no longer stand to hear even the original versions of either one.

That’s a shame really. I consider ‘Free Bird’ to be one of the greatest songs of all time.
But there’s no overexposure at all, here. I haven’t grown tired of the song…

When thinking of Southern Rock, ‘.38 Special’ could join the list as well… Tongue

True, .38 Special definitely falls within the “Southern Rock” genre, even though both they and Molly Hatchett became popular near the very end of that genre’s heyday.

Well Sage it seems like you knew what i would like and posted one at the start and one at the end Grin
i liked Boston- More Than A Feeling , so Energetic, even with the 70’s output and analogue Recording this song can post the lazy crowd jump of their feet , that is for sure.

Darkness Darkness is just beautiful though the singer gets off tune just a little (i guess there wa no AutoTune at this time) but i would have wanted him to get of tune as it complete the atmosphere of voice..
i can imagine Kip kinda song like him ,but considering the different style of music

Yep, it’s hard to beat Boston’s first album for pure energy.

They even sort of look alike.  The lead singer for Screaming Trees is Mark Lanegan ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Lanegan ), who was later in Queens of the Stone Age.

Quite cool.  I’m not a big fan of reggae beat in general, but that’s not bad at all.  The only song I can say I genuinely like with a reggae beat is UB40’s Can’t Help Falling In Love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajp0Uaw4rqo

I meant to add this one to an earlier post, but I had to leave for work:
The Flying Lizards- Money
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-P2qL3qkzk

While I like a whole lot of music performed by original artists, I also very much enjoy covers of songs where the cover artist puts their own spin on the song and makes it a distinctive version as evidenced by my recent posts in this thread.

As far as my taste in original music goes, my favorite genres are “New Wave” from the late 70s/early 80s and “Grunge”/“Alternative” from the 90s/early 2000s, with an honorable mention going to “Progressive Rock” from the early 70s.

I just heard this for the first time today:
Imagine Dragons-Radioactive
[URL}http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu-xFvLaE68[/URL]
It didn’t blow me away to the extent that Tool’s Prison Sex did the first time I heard that on the radio, but it did get my full attention enough to make me write down what I could of the lyrics so I could find the song once I got home.
(By the way, what is with DJs nowadays rarely if ever telling the name of the artist and song they play?  They must think it’s “hip” to pretend their listeners should already be familiar with every song, but I just find it annoying when they do that.)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, everyone else probably heard this for the first time 18 months ago and was sick of hearing it a year ago.  You’ve got to understand though, Birmingham Alabama is a musical wasteland that only gets the most pasteurized and homogenized examples of popular music, and we only get that a year or more after it has come and gone elsewhere.

Aha, I should have popped in here earlier.

I’ve been listening to this whole album a lot lately - first Genesis album post Peter Gabriel.  I do love this song.  Working up an arrangement of Los Endos with my band, too.

Genesis “A Trick Of The Tail”
