Hi there,

My name is Chris and I’m a solo indie developer making adventure games for iOS / Android and Amazon Fire.

I would like to share my newest game MISTICO, it has been out about a week and so far has received very positive reviews.

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mistico/id1548284677
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.m9games.mistico

Here’s the story:

MISTICO - a small mysterious Spanish island hidden somewhere in the Balearics. You have often heard rumours of its existence, however, actually locating MISTICO has proven rather difficult.

After a drunken warm evening in a local bar you overhear some sun weathered locals speaking in Spanish. Picking up some of the words you learnt exploring the local area you decide to eavesdrop in on the conversation.

“¿Estás seguro?”

“¡Sí !, tengo un mapa claro a la isla de mistico.”

Another man suddenly appears at the entrance of the bar and beckons the men to leave everything and come quickly.

I watched the group arguing outside and they hurriedly jump in a sun battered car and leave. I take one last drag from my bottle and decide it was time to head off myself.

On the way out I notice the men had left a torn scrap of paper on the table they were seated at. I looked closer and noticed what was written on the paper. I quickly realised what I was looking at, longitude and latitude coordinates, scribbled in pencil.

“Surely not” I thought. “The exact location of MISTICO?”

Hiring a local boat, I set off on a journey on the high seas to where the coordinates pinpointed the location of the island. However, the journey didn’t go exactly to plan. Nearing the coordinates I quickly ran into trouble, all I remember was clear blue skies turning black and a strange humming sound.

Opening my eyes, I looked up and saw strange old house in the middle of nowhere….

“Where am I?”

ABOUT

MISTCO is a first person point and click adventure, similar to games you may have played in the ’90’s. A simple gameplay interface consisting of the world that you explore and an inventory panel where you can collect, combine and use items you find along the way.

Explore areas, collect hidden objects and take in your surroundings. You will need all of your puzzle solving skills to put together a plan to make your way through the island and down the many paths of escape.

How you tackle the puzzles is down to you. Each puzzle has a logical solution, so take your time, there is no rush and enjoy the process of understanding what you have to do.

FEATURES

> Easy to play, touch the screen to move around. Use the arrow to move back
> Use the inventory to collect, combine and use objects
> Beautiful all original adventure 3D graphics, environments and atmosphere to explore
> Immersive backing soundtrack and effects to pull you into the adventure
> Automatic saving when you complete an area - Use the ‘Continue’ button on the main menu to pick up where you left off

SMALL PRINT

MISTICO was created from the imagination of a solo indie developer.

“I am always excited to hear people playing my games and their experience along the way. Adventure gaming is my passion and your feedback helps my games get better.“

Really excited to hear your thoughts! I’m available on social media and email if you need any hints, don’t always like posting hints on forums else it spoils the fun for anyone else wanting to go on the adventure.

Just to let you guys know, I have been working hard with new improvements to MISTICO based on player feedback over email and social media and have launched a series of great updates which include:

A brand new save system! Yes at last every last bit of your adventure is now continually saved so you can now play for short periods and then pick up where you left off. It’s taken an age to implement but it is more complicated than you’d think.

A new hints system, people asked and asked for a hint system, I resisted for a while, but if people want more clues to solve the puzzles then you can now hit the HINT button. Three hints are included for each puzzle giving a clearer hint every press.

Along with other minor bug fixes and improvements, the latest version of MISTICO is looking pretty strong, if you haven’t already taken a look then please do so, as a thrilling adventure awaits!

I thought this sounded like my kind of thing (and being on Android would mean I might stand a chance of finding time to play it) but the description mentions hidden objects - is that right? I didn’t notice any hidden object scenes in the screenshots.

Hi there! The hidden objects refer to the objects you have to find to help solve puzzles, like keys, ladders, torch, rope etc. Happy adventuring!

I would love to share some of the background behind making the game to people not so familiar with the process of making an adventure game, or at very least working alone on a solo project.

Creating all the assets is a huge daunting task, everything from 3d models, 2d artwork, even down to colouring and framing has to be thought about to create an environment that is as believable and captivating as humanly possible.

Puzzles and a believable story are then layered into the artwork process bringing together a gameplay mechanic that players can enjoy. Involving inventory, item combinations and logical problem solving.

Most recently I have been working on an in depth saving system which saves every last morsel of a players inventory and progress to improve the experience. This has been a mammoth effort for a solo developer, which to most people looking in is a shrug the shoulders moment.

I know this only brushes the surface of what ultimately goes into making an adventure game, but it is a passion of mine and it may be fun and interesting to some to share this kind of stuff, comments will decide the fate of this but if you would like to play the game or support future projects and development then I would love you to play:

Hello all! This is my first time at launching a game for PC so please bear with me.

After quite a few emails and messages of encouragement I have ported MISTICO from mobile onto the desktop PC with full HD graphics and video for a good desktop experience.

If you are a fan of point and click games, with logic puzzles / inventory and a good deal of exploration then MISTICO will perfect for you.

Please message back any feedback, I’m always looking to improve, thanks for looking!

I was stuck already in the first room of the building due to a possible bug. I tried every logical way I could think of using the clues from the note and shed to open the puzzle box but no cigar. Finally gave up and used the hint system, but it only confirmed I had already used the clues correctly. But the number 276 didn’t open the box until I restarted the game and tried again.

I had tried other possible solutions before the correct one. Maybe the game doesn’t reset the puzzle after entering a wrong number?

Also; I can’t seem to find a way to quit the game, other than to alt-tab and quit from the desktop.

Edit: And now I’ve finished the game! Maybe a bit too casual for my taste. The game is more or less all about puzzles and they were mostly fun to solve. But perhaps it didn’t make that much sense that they were there at all and I’m not sure I ever quite understood the premise/story of the game. But for what it is I enjoyed it (and it’s practically free)!

Thanks for the feedback and thank you for playing! Yes there are a few things to resolve, like the exit button and things. In all fairness I only got the PC version running nicely this morning so lots of updates and exclusive PC content to come!
