The return of the kickstarter watch thread: heres a place to post about a new kickstarter you saw, discuss what makes a good/bad pitch, or post any other observations on crowd sourcing.

I’m new to the whole kickstarter concept. Where do you go to contribute? Specifically, for the Pinkerton Road campaign?

You can’t on the kickstarter website as they are finished the funding.

However if you go to the Pinkerton website you can join via paypal.

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

DoubleBear Productions, headed by writer and quest designer on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, Brian Mitsoda, has launched a Kickstarter for their very promising zombie* survival RPG, Dead State:

And a new trailer:

* Yeah, zombies, but in this context it’s a good thing.

I nearly jizzed in my pants when I noticed “turn-based” in the description of this RPG. I’m definitely following this campaign!

It’s cool to see turn-based RPG’s getting a comeback. And I like DoubleBear’s approach, where you control the main character directly and the other party members only by general commands, and that they can refuse to respond if they are scared etc. Seems fitting to the game concept.

Less than 3 days left. They’re funded, but have some pretty cool stretch goals, and the game is cheaper through Kickstarter than at launch - so it’s worth supporting them now, IMO.

More about the stretch goals:

holy cow, i heard about the ouya last week, an android based console with an emphasis on open development (free dev kits)... well today i realized a kickstarter for it already started and smashed straight through its goal:

The OUYA is following the disruptive innovation handbook brilliantly. My only concern is that this is pretty much free market testing for the big publishers. If the OUYA is a success then someone with the brand equity of Valve can swoop in with their own console and superior free 2 play games and destroy them.

The OUYA would have to penetrate the mass market before that happens. They’ve certainly been successful with the early adopters.

hm yeah maybe. Though im not sure if somebody like valve would be too eager to provide free dev kits and make the system completely transparent/moddable… theyd be certainly willing to do everything else.
I may buy an ouya after i know for sure theres things i want to play on it. Will definitely be interesting to see things unfold…

Have you pledged for the OUYA? Do you think is worth it?
