Place The Character… Continued!
Not Joey from BaSS.

Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
Oscar perhaps?
You have to play the game, to find out why you are playing the game! - eXistenZ
Not Oscar.
The few times this unhelpful character makes himself useful, he either dies, picks up an obsession/addiction, or gets (temporarily) trapped.
He has quite an English vocabulary for a foreigner.

This character dies twice in the course of the game, and also gets revived twice.

I’ll join the uneducated guesses: Crispin?
This has got to be Brink from The Dig.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
It was indeed Ludger Brink from The Dig

Oh. Which limb does he lose? And what addictions can you possibly get in space? Gambling?

He picks up an addiction to “life crystals” (the ones that revived him in the first place), and he loses a hand when he gets it stuck in a crevice while trying to grab another life crystal he saw in there (you’re the one that needs to saw the hand off, btw).
I highly recommend the game, btw. While still a traditional LucasArts adventure, it’s the closest thing they made to a solitary exploration game.

I really enjoyed The Dig. Well, everything except the ending. I was reading the Amazon reviews of Haldeman’s Forever Peace and a reviewer (Andrew Lias) likened it to riding a bullet train into a marshmallow. I right away thought of The Dig.
I hate to be a flake but someone else can take my turn. Having trouble coming up with character hints and weeds are taking over my life.
