Help with ideas for game of mine

I’m writing up an adventure game idea of mine where fairy tales become “twisted” (such as American McGee’s Alice) and are merged with different video game genres (point ‘n’ click, RPG, war, horror,  zombie apocalypse, etc.)

Could you suggest me some cool/zany ideas of how you would like each of the following locations to become “twisted” and with which particular video game genre you would like them to be mashed up?

Camelot
Sherwood Forest
Captain Ahab’s Pequod
Captain Nemo’s Nautilus
Neverland
Inside Moby Dick
Victorian London / China Town
The Orient Express
Wonderland
Emerald City
Transylvania

Thanks.

what about The Girl Without Hands, that already a very twisty tale, but you can turn it into like how the father managed to cheat the devil and keep his daughter alive and beautiful.

about your list Transylvania and Vampires always been offering a big set of variation for tales and the atmosphere .

No zombies, please. That cow has been milked dry.

Personally I would love to see history setting with gay “twist” but that’s probably a bit too bold to sell.

Also, what kind of story are you planning? For example vampires and zombies are pretty much never surprising, you pretty much know what you get when you get the first hint. I wouldn’t mind vampires in the Orient Express though.

Something that’s been used for a few times but works for me is sci-fi mixed with history. Aliens infiltrating Victorian London for example.

And if done well, pretty much every tale where you turn the tables so that the good guys are actually the bad guys and vice versa, it’s often hilarious and it can also be very insightful.

Oh and about the mixed genres. I like wasd-movement a lot, I think it suits perfectly well for adventures too. And RPG elements are my cup of tea too. But I never mind a good old fashioned linear point & click either.

Okay, a few ideas:

Neverland - Horror. Neverland always seemed like a pretty cruel place to those who were outsiders (Tinkerbell tries to kill Wendy etc.). You can make the crocodile and Captain Hook very intimidating. It can a be survival horror even, trying to find food and weapons.

Victorian London - Noir! No supernatural elements. A noir detective, a femme fatale, and a murder case in this setting could be incredible.

Wonderland - An RPG, considering the strange creatures and lands.

I am also thinking you could make one location into a dating sim/ visual novel.

Thanks for the replies so far!

I’ve come up with the following ideas:

——

Neverland - thought of turning it up into how Jambalaya Island was like in Monkey Island 4

Victorian London / China Town - noir setting (Thought of including Scrooge by making him owner of a casino Grin ala Grim Fandango type of setting) - thanks to Shany Wink

Wonderland - War setting (such as Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Battlefield etc.) having the Red Queen vs. the White Queen

Emerald City - zombie apocalypse setting

——

Keep your suggestions coming in! Grin

Thanks.

If I give you a fantastic idea which you use in the game and it goes on to sell a million copies. I could sue you for all the profits.

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

It’s your game, you design it.

Troll much?

Camelot - Twisted by a spell and all of King Arthur’s knights become evil and Morgan Le Fay and the like become good.

Sherwood Forest - Alternate reality were Robin Hood steals from the poor to give to the rich.

The Orient Express - Train is sent through a tear in reality, travel to different stories written by famous authors.

Transylvania - Dracula is actually a good guy, just missunderstood.  Like True Story of the Three Little Pigs.  You could actually have the other classic monsters there and do the same thing.
