Take Pirates of the Caribbean out of Monkey Island, Angel Heart out of Gabriel Knight, Jules Verne out of Myst - and you are barely left with anything Smile

Take Pirates of the Caribbean out of Monkey Island

It’s “take Monkey Island out of Pirates of the Caribbean” actually.

Pirates of Caribbean movies are pretty shameless Monkey Island ripoffs but I still like them - not love them, but like them.

Monkey Island is pretty heavily influenced by Treasure Island though, like any humorous pirate adventure is.

Well, the Pirates of the Caribbean RIDE was a big influence on Monkey Island, or so I hear.  But so was On Stranger Tides, a great novel by Tim Powers, involving voodoo, Blackbeard and whatnot.  Even so, Monkey Island is derivative to some extent, but I mean really, should we love it any less?

Oh, and then it kinda came full circle with the movies adapting On Stranger Tides.

I was talking about the park ride that inspired both the games and the movies, but you can substitute it for Robert Louis Stevenson anytime Smile That wasn’t the point.
