Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Tuesday 24 July 2012

While Paul Trowe is busy acting like an idiot and Josh Mandel trying to do damage control, what’s Al Lowe doing? Throwing all the Kickstarter money at naked women, of course! Speaking of which, today is Al Lowe’s 66th birthday (only 3 more to go to reach 69)! Happy Birthday, Al!

Preparing today’s scene prompted me to replay LSL7 last week-end. I used to have mixed feelings about the game, so I’m glad I replayed it. It’s true that it doesn’t walk the thin line between risqué and crass as deftly as its predecessors (the fact that Larry actually gets most of the girls this time around certainly doesn’t help in that respect). And that final puzzle where Larry gets the captain to sleep with him, despite her obvious disgust, by offering her a job she wants in exchange, is really, really icky.

But I’m willing to forgive most of it because the game is so insanely fun and creative. Between all the little visual gags, the thematic jokes in each location, the responses for pretty much any action you can think of, and all the hidden jokes accessible only by using the parser, the game is really firing on all cylinders. It also helps that the girls are great, especially Drew, who’s just adorable, Annette (pictured above; or here with her clothes on), who has the best theme music and character design and a hilarious noirish subplot, and of course the ever-delightful Peggy.

Cartoon Boobies Innocent

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

I haven’t played text adventures, so I remember how I thought Larry 7 is game from another planet when I tried it. Funnily, talking about “illusion of freedom” in that other thread and this one is an epitome of it. The game is so good I’ve even got to like jazz music, and I hate jazz music.

I don’t remember much of it, certainly not that screenshot and the icky scene seems… icky.
But I remember the game being fun back then, and looking good. Did them boobs really have so few pixels?

Yup. 640x480, 256 colours. State-of-the-art Super VGA!

K.Neilsen let me say you can not had played LSL5, because if you did, you wouldn’t had given it any kinda of praising or credits ,anyhow, its surly a disgrace for the series ,for AL, Sierra and for the Classic Adventure games all The Same.

P.S:i am not question your taste here Nielsen, please accept my apology if i sounded like, but i am questioning the Idea of (HOW COME??)

cheers

From what I remember of playing it in my youth it was pretty good. It was the first game in the series I played, though. Why is it apparently so bad?

bad as moonless night without even one star in sky.

seriously it is not a game and nothing but an airport terminal codes insertion of the Games manual that included a VERY irritating/frustrating copyright system.

it is even less than to call it an interactive movie, as movies should be at least fun to watch, but there was No humor , no Puzzles (literary), very short Game, boring and cliched 100% plus that it hasn’t any hints/clues ‘bout the unreleased/missing fourth volume which would have had been a good theme to be used and stressed on, only that suddenly after Patti and Larry’s reunion at the end of larry3 at the Sierra’s studios ,one became an undercover agent with nothing to uncover and the other working at a porno .INC office with no memory whatsoever of how he became like this or how he even doesnt remember the name of Patti.

All that through the game until the end there is no one clue about how he lost his memory and so on until the end (which i dont quite remember, only something dinner) Patti’s tells him something about a coma and head smack at their wedding (surly i dont remember the ending at all) and ALL that and this did not serve the gameplaying all before a bit, whether through a connection or Humor!!

my conclusion that Al was just happy and giving up the game with all the changes and the evolution/innovation from the 3rd part from the Mouse control ,and the end text phaser ,the Midi Sound and Music and sound effects and likely the graphics .

i wonder when Al gets to its remake (if ever) coud/would he be able of keep a 1% of the original release

If you don’t like LSL, I guess 4 would be your favorite of the bunch.

Just a question on the side: is there any eye candy games for heterosexual females?

And what I remember 5 wasn’t that bad.
