Could we please get rid of the warning page that pops up any time you try to follow a link to some other site?

It’s 2019, we know how links work.

It’s to protect against malicious links. Other places do it, like if you ever click on links in Steam, it gives you the same warning.

I’m just wondering how this works with someone who decides not to click the link. Do they say to themselves “oh, i’m leaving AG? That would really suck, I don’t want to do that. I’m going back.”

So yeah, I don’t really get it either.

The difference is that, on Steam, a link could lead to a fake Steam store page, trying to steal people’s credit card details. What’s the risk here? A malicious fake review?

Right. The only thing it really protects against is someone setting up a fake version of Adventure Gamers, so that a visitor would follow the link and not realize they’d left the site.

I suppose that might be a way to harvest people’s login details in case they’ve reused them for other accounts, but the risk seems minimal, and even if it were to happen, the forum traffic isn’t so overwhelming that it would be impossible to handle through moderation.

I thought this was in reference to the forums where anyone can post any link. In a review, you are right it doesn’t make sense to have it.

I’ll add an option for folks to disable this if they want. We’ve enabled it to decrease the number of spammers we’ve had (which has certainly improved a lot), it’s only on links that we can’t validate upfront.

On game pages, in reviews, on the ‘whats new’ and so on all external links directly work.

On https://adventuregamers.com/forums/member/edit_profile you should be able to manage this setting.

For the folks in this thread, I’ve set it to ‘no’ which means you won’t get a confirmation.
