..!

Did you drop the hint in another thread on purpose? Smile

It’s the dark green tentacle judge, human contest, “Day of the Tentacle”.

Oh, I can’t remember how many DoTT ‘hints’ I drop all over the place. Well spotted, though—even though it’s one of the funniest lines in the game, it’s easy to miss unless you purposely stand around to hear everything the judges have to say amongst themselves.  I think that even in the talky version, it’s not a voiced line.

The punctuation punches like a Lucas Arts game. Hmmm…

It’s a bit like that. Imagine the WadjetEye sci-fi games, done by people who obviously adore LucasArts.. with a little Al Lowe influence mixed in for good (or bad) measure.

Sci-fi and Al Lowe? The only thing coming to mind is Rex Nebular, although that always reminded me more of Sierra than Lucasarts.

Captain Disaster in Death Has a Million Stomping Boots?

Only other thing that comes to mind is Darkside Detective, but that line is not in the first game…and I don’t think either of us has played the second game…and it’s not quite sci-fi enough, is it?

@Luhr28: dial down the Al and wait about two years..

@Baron_Blubba: fewer boots, less stomping and no detectives in sight.

I don’t recognize the quote, but the randomly emphasized words remind of Beneath a Steel Sky. In which case it would probably have something to do with either the guard outside St James, or Mrs Piermont.

Oh? I thought it couldn’t be, considering @Luhr28’s avatar. Well, then… This struck me as funny at the time:

“Last version was better,” says [name deleted]. “More bugs. Bugs make game fun.”

Bethesda - every Elder Scrolls game. And that Cyberpunk™ game, probably.

Wrong decade, I’m afraid.

The game was re-released some years after it was originally made, but for some reason this particular message wasn’t in the re-release. I don’t know if this was by accident or by design.

Do you mean that I would have known it because having Joey as my avatar must mean I’m a megafan and memorized every line? Not the case - he just fits my online personality. Besides, my memory for lines and screens are terrible.

Is this a text adventure?

Yes, and a quite famous one too. It spawned one sequel (which I thought was better in many way, even if the first one had some standout bits) and two books. I read the first one, thought it was terrible (though the reviews on Amazon are generally favorable), and never sought out the second one.

Apparently there was supposed to be a third book that was never written, and I think the first two are long out of print.

The first game, surprisingly, can still be bought digitally.
