Default Recommendations for adventure games.

Hello,

I was brought up playing text adventures from infocom and would like any recommendations for various new or classic adventure games. I loved the infocom text adventures but I think it may be time to move on and play some of these new adventures. I did though play myst which I found terrific and have been trying the sequel riven which also is very good. Outside of these titles I have not played other adventure games.

I am looking forward to playing some new adventure games with plenty of depth and your recommendations on a starting place would be appreciated.

My advice to you would be to play titles from 90s first - Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Gabriel Knight, Broken Sword... before moving to newer games as not to be spoiled by things like hot-spot revealer, hints... and move to modern interface more naturally.

Of course, it's impossible to know what kind of games you would like, but this would be a good starting point.

^ What they said.

It may indeed be best to start with the old interfaces first (like the text parser) before going to games with a more "recent" gameplay.

And of course, the top 100 is a great way to find out which games are worth the trouble.
There is also a great recommendation thread stickied in the forum. It has links to specific recommendation threads in different subgenres within the adventure genre, so there'll definitely be plenty of titles to your liking...
