This quote is spoken by the "bad guy" near the very end of the game. The main character had been trying to help others do the opposite of the first part of the quote. (I hope this isn't too cryptic! )

Then I guess it's from Overclocked. I think it's from a game I've played, so it might be that.

And your guess would be correct, Kurufinwe.
If anyone tried Googling the quote, the first result would probably have been a piece of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan fiction that worked in the main plot to Overclocked, which includes the exact quote from the game! (There is even a spoiler warning at the beginning of the story for people who haven't yet played or haven't finished playing the game!)

New quote:
Did I wake you? I'm sorry. I shouldn't be so clumsy. Don't worry. I'll take care of everything. Go back to sleep. (I wanted to post something from TLJ, but then I realised that the game's entire script is on the Internet, and therefore Googleable. So I've had to resort to something maybe a tad harder.) |

It's not Mata Hari is it? I know we've had that game already, but this quote does sound familiar...

No, it's not Mata Hari. I'll post a couple of hints later if nobody's figured it out.

A couple of hints:
1) This is the very first line in the game. 2) When trying to place that quote, don't think cute — think creepy. |

That's not it.
Since it seems the game's first line is giving people trouble, how about the very last line? (Names have been blanked out.) There are worse ways to spend time than playing strip Parcheesi with ***** and *****. Sure, they're not real, but like ***** said, what is? This one should be pretty obvious, I think. Again?! You people are no fun.
(Seriously, I really thought that the second quote, especially the tone (and choice of game), would be a dead giveaway.) OK, hint: The game's first line ("Did I wake you, etc.") is uttered by a character played by one of the game's two designers. And the last line ("There are worst ways..."), by a character played by the other designer. Also, you may have played the game and not heard that last line, as there are alternate endings. |

The strip parcheesi line and the cameo appearances by the game's two creators makes me think it could be a Space Quest but I don't remember any of them opening with that first line.

Not Space Quest.
(And certainly not cameos, at least in one case.) |

Next quote:
"Even though Genghis Kahn would make a big splash hit at our reception, I need to assume a more formal chameleon guise. Gage, do we have time to jump back and meet Dick Clark?" |

Finally!
This was, of course, The Pandora Directive. For all those who forgot about this great game (shame on you!): intro, canonical ending. OK, Burns11, your turn! (Serves you right for once again deleting a post of yours, Fien. ) EDIT: Heey! Wait until I say you can go. And some mod please prevent users from deleting their posts. This is beyond annoying. |

Because people see it, reply to it, and then the conversation no longer makes sense once it's deleted.
Whatever. Let's get on with the game. |
