Hello fellow adventure game fans. Long time lurker, first time poster here.

First I feel the need to apologize for making yet another "game recommendation" thread. After lurking these boards for a long time I know they pop up a lot.

That being said, I am looking for something more specific than I can find in other threads: Can anyone recommend a game with a similar feeling as Zork Nemesis? This seems to be the game I go back and replay the most out of any of my all-time favorites, and I can't seem to find anything close to it. It definitely wasn't anything like the other Zork games (not much humor), but I love its dark atmosphere and unfolding storyline.

Puzzle difficulty and game-play style are less important criteria to me than the feel/atmosphere of the game, if that makes any sense. If you've played a game that made you think of Nemesis, I sure would like to hear about it. Thanks!

I second Colpets recommendations. Especially Morpheus should probably appeal to you. Another one is Lighthouse - The Dark Being from 1996 or 97. Same surreal and dark setting as ZN, but not as good when it comes to puzzle design. Very hard and unforgiving at times.

Obsidian may also be worth checking out if you can find a copy.

I agree with the recommendations with a few comments. Shivers2, as much as I loved the game, had a horrible timed sequence at the end that drove may players to tears. With the exception of one puzzle, Lighthouse is a wonderful game. Amber is a difficult game to port to current PCs, but if you can do it, you will enjoy it.

If you like a bit of subtle humor in your games, which most of the Zork games provide, I would certainly look at Callahan's Crosstime Saloon. And maybe some later Space Quest games.

As I remember it, it was quite easy to save just before the timed bits and repeat the actions until you have it down pat. A little frustrating, but doable.

Not true, as you must switch discs. If you fail to complete the task, you must return to disc one. The puzzle itself is on disc two.

I might have been thinking of when you run the gauntlet through the canyon, rather than the end game.
