A Slice of Fried Gold

It's frustrating to see, especially when IGN seem so positive about it in that preview. I could understand a smaller marketing push if it was just coming out for the PC, but with a 360 version coming as well, they could really reach a wider market if they simply put more effort into getting it out there. People flock to good games - look at something like Deadly Premonition, a $20 game that was dumped out onto the 360 and yet quickly gained a following and sold surprisingly well just because the word of mouth about it was so strong. Gray Matter could easily become a surprise success if they really started to get it out there and let everyone know just how good (hopefully) it is.

I agree SamandMax, you could have the best product in the world but if no-one knows about it then it will be a failure. Companies can spend up to 50% of their budget on advertising alone, games companies should take notice, I was surprised there was nothing about it at E3.

Disappointed, but not surprised.

Official U.K. cover (later confirmed to be the world-wide cover for the game):

I like it - sexy, mysterious, a little goth. The font isn't bland at all, in my opinion, it's got that well-executed, not-too-obvious 3D-touch to it, and the typeset itself is nice as well.

Not bad - a bit messy perhaps, and too much focus on the cards compared to the brain/science aspect in my opinion. By no means an instant cover design classic like GK2, but nothing that should scare people away either. Though her waistline is somewhat disturbing.

Terrific cover. Suggests a rich deep story - complex, sexy and mysterious.
Only concern is all those playing cards. Hope card puzzles aren't as prevalent as slider puzzles in Broken Sword! |

I don't understand. It is perfectly normal, not to mention the font is covering it all up.

I like the cover a lot! Samantha looks great, the tone is mysterious and that faded out face in-between David and Samantha is awesome; it reminds me of the sculpture in the GK3 main menu.
Thanks for posting it, Andrea. |

Its better than the other one, where Sam looked like Mickey mouse
But i think there's a bit too much stuff going on, it would be better if it was a bit more simple and cleaner.

Good box art is nice and all, but I'm really at the point where I just want to play the damn game.

Haha, I think you're not alone on this one. But yes, a vast improvement over the last version. Maybe not perfect, but much better now. I can live with this one. Bring on the game now!

Bleh. Uncreative, unattractive box. Fitting for a mediocre game. So far, absolutely nothing I've seen of Gray Matter screams quality. The trailer, the stills instead of cutscenes, most screenshots, the info about the gameplay, the lack of marketing, the reputation of the German publisher, the delays... even the name of the inexperienced developer just reminds me of the giant game design mistakes they made in So Blonde. The only remaining straw is the name Jane Jensen. That's a bit thin.

If I didn't know what GM was about I would have thought it's a strip poker game (for juniors). The matter of fact is: with this cover I'm not sure any more what GM is about.

Nice cover, but a bit crowded. And I agree with GarageGothic: too little on the brain/science part. I had to search for the small brain image. If I hadn't known it would involve neuroscience I wouldn't even have spotted it. So not the perfect mix of magic and science on the cover, but time will tell if the game does manage to bring that.
Apart from that, it is a cover that immediately grabs attention and when looking more carefully, it seems like the cover of a game that has much in it, judging by the many different images. So a quite promising cover, although I like the Gabriel Knight covers better, which can capture the essence of the game without it being too crowded with pictures.

Very true, especially in regards to The Beast Within box cover. It had a very minimalist approach to graphics elements, and yet conveyed true power. Almost symbolism.
