Default New Broken Sword game?!?

Hey guys,

I have just come across this article by IGN.com where it mentions a "New Mystery Game":

Quote:
New Mystery Game?

A well-known developer drops by with an important clue.
by IGN Staff

May 9, 2007 - We know you normally come to IGN for all the latest and greatest news in gaming. Well, this time around, we're leaving things entirely up to you. One of our developer friends managed to sneak this little poem to us earlier today and indicated that it contained a coded message that would lead us to details on their newest game. We looked at it upside down, held it up to a mirror and even warmed it over a candle. Then we realized that part of it was in French so we gave up.

That's where you come in. If you can decipher each line in the poem and the other markings on the page, you'll be given a clue that leads you to more information about the mystery game. And if you'd be kind enough to pass it along, we'd definitely appreciate it.
The only clue they gave was this picture:

Now if you carefully look at the bottom of the pic there is a seal depicting 2 men on a horse. Now that seal is very familiar to the seal on the "Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars" box cover:

Also, some words are in French.

Maybe this hints the Paris parts of the game?!?

Discuss.

Half of the Internet agrees, Kotaku for example, but I couldn't find any proof linking the message to this particular game (or to Funcom, for that matter). Is there any website confirming that?

I get the feeling that this game doesn't come from Funcom. Not sure where the idea started, but Ragnar Tornquist's Blog seems to refute this.

Even if the themes of the game aren't terribly original (Templars, end of the world, etc...) this might still be one to watch for. It's an interesting strategy to create buzz around the game to say the least.

Word! This was really amusing (and I do believe that the obvious hints to Broken Sword are intentional).

Qui sont les Huits?=Who are the Eight?
Qu'est-ce que veut dire?= (roughly) What does he/she/it want to say?

Also, 2012 was the last year on the Mayan calendar. Lots of apocalypse theories about 2012. Yay, more Mayans.

It's funny trying to unscramble that phrase, it seems to be the greatest anagram in the world, because there seems to be an unlimited number of bizarre phrases to derive from it.

My favorite was "Odd Maraca Key Rings"

Let's try to translate what we can. The Spanish sentence (top left corner) says "De que manera estan involucrados los Illuminati?": In which way are the Illuminati involved? What does it say in German? Hebrew?

Man, this game has it all (same all).

I guess the word's official now, and it was Funcom behind the whole thing.

Guess my feelings were wrong, but I'll be definately interested in finding out more about this game.

The Norwegian phrase in the top right corner says: "Amundsen found it under the ice"

It is probably refering to Roald Amundsen, a norwegian polar explorer.

Default Secret World

Hey all,

According to Eurogamer.net this poem relates to the new Funcom MMO "Secret World", designed by Ragnar Tornquist.

Quote:
From Eurogamer.net:
It's an MMO for PC and Xbox 360 that's being created by game director Ragnar Tørnquist, the man behind The Longest Journey and Dreamfall. No release date has been set for the game, but it's already been in development for nearly a year.

It will take place in the modern-day world and let you roam around familiar locations such as London, New York and Shanghai. But the real magic comes from the world within, a hidden and mythical land that you'll have to find for yourselves.
The site has some concept art too.

Sounds very like TLJ/Dreamfall tbh, and I wonder if this is related to the TLJ MMO he has talked about in the past?

The seal you see in both the BS1 boxart and the Poem is infact one belonging to the Knight's Templar (which feature strongly in BS1, and may feature in this new MMO from funcom). The new game claims to include Conspiracies etc, and the Knight's Templar are a favourite with many conspiracy buffs, and have featured in the plots of many fictional thrillers.

There are concurrent discussions going on here and in the General forum. I don't want to merge the threads because it'd be confusing so I'll close this thread* and link to the other to continue the discussions there.

The Secret World thread in General

Sincerely,

Your neat freak mod!
