It is Wimli, the UK version was called 'journey to the moon'.

I sort of enjoyed myst and a bit of Riven, I was almost ready to see why people labelled them the best adventure games ever - until that statue puzzle in Riven. It was so ludicrously hard and took so ludicrously long to come even close to the solution, I eventually just gave up on the game and the rest of the Myst series, even though I'd bought it.

Games like Journey to the Moon/Mysterious Island (although MI had a stuck bug in it unfortuantely) are much closer to what I thought drew everyone into myst, beautiful worlds and interesting puzzles, not illogical and unforgiving ones.

I just won Aura on eBay (for the princely sum of $4.24 - that's with S&H). I've played the demo a bit and was confused as he** but I still wanted to play the full game anyway.

You'll love the music, but don't expect anything when it comes to story. Puzzles are pretty good.

Guess we got the UK version here in Belgium then. First I didn't even know that it was the same game as Voyage. The box looks completely different, definitely prefer the Voyage one.

I just finished the game last night. What a wonderful game! I never liked the Myst games much, but oddly enough, I do like some of the Myst-like games like Rama, Lighthouse and now Voyage. The main difference seems to be indeed that these games do have a large inventory and add inventory puzzles to the mix. More of those please!

This poll doesn't really work for me. First, it seems to be a rather limited, arbitrary list (Post Mortem??) and doesn't have a whole bunch of other games that are more applicable such as Rhem and a whole lot more:

Schizm is on there, just as Mysterious Journey I believe.

Nice list.

Well yeah I kind of feel like a troll with that earlier post of mine, I just read one of Jake's very good and lengthy posts in another thread and I have to acknowledge that while that was just me stating my opinion about first person adventure games, it was quite trollish behavior.

I know I said I hated Myst games, but since I just signed up for GameTap, I figure it's worth giving them another shot sometime since I don't have to pay extra for them. At least, I know I don't like Myst. Maybe Riven and Exile will offer a different experience. I did like Zork Nemesis, after all. But I swear, I hate reading in games.

If its worth reading I dont mind, but in Riven theres a nice part where it gives you a 50 page diary to assimilate in order to accomplish later puzzles, I gave up around this point.

Riven is quite a remarkable work, has something of a really deep sense of its own reality and even some building up of tension in the story line and the graphics are lovely...I have played and studied the Myst series in detail and posted on them at various times, and have gone through ups and downs with them, URU has been the latest I have looked at and has actually the most potential I think but some like RIVEN are quite lovely. Aura has, I agree some very nice parts, and overall is quite good, but I found some of the others on the list somewhat formulae in effect, and Schism is a bear to get at times...and a little too weird slimey alien for me, I like the cleaner alien environments, but that is just me. Interesting list and fun topic.

Blackstone Chronicles is the best game of all those presented. But it is not a Myst clone.
My vote goes for "Other". This includes Neverhood, Dig and Zork:Nemesis

Default Gas collector puzzle in Schizm

@MdaG

I know this is like 5 years too late,

but just so you know the clue for that gas collector puzzle was misleading anyways.
It said you had to click the next lever twice as many times as the last one when PART OF what you were actually supposed to do was pushing the next lever once more than the last one.

Not only was the clue totally misleading, but it takes about 100-200 clicks to do that puzzle correctly.

I consider that the stupidest, most illogical puzzle in a game ever
and I played the myst games without using a walkthrough
so that should give you an idea of how ridiculous that one puzzle was.

The rest of the game isn't too bad so I suggest just using a walkthrough for that one part.
The clue is wrong anyways.
You don't really have a choice.

I just discovered another myst clone that's not on this list at all.

It's called "drowned god".
it's about an alien conspiracy
and it looks awesome so far.

If you guys try this one,
make sure you get the patch or else it will crash.

Also, another game that's not listed on here is "frankenstein: through the eyes of the monster"
It's alright.
It's nowhere near good as myst,
but it's decent.

I guess you could also consider the Rhem series a myst clone,
but I warn you it's one of those games that gives you a thousand directions to go in to the point where you have to draw a map.

I also found it very bland and didn't really get me immersed in the game like a myst game would.

Sentinel is fun but a hard game, has beautiful settings. Aura is also ok, Myst and Riven are classics and have a lot of imitations. Crystal Key I and II both of which play on XP with the right patches and video codex are also in the same vein. You may enjoy them too.
