Vala Byrd is a young woman working towards securing the funds to get her into the academy as a spaceship pilot. She is working at a cargo facility, unloading a vessel that transports samples taken from a far-away sector in space, when she makes the sudden discovery of an unknown life form inside one of the samples. The task is now to help the alien creature, who soon bonds with Vala, to escape the station and return to outer space.
