Our Verdict:
A grander take on Her Story‘s FMV database search idea, Telling Lies proves Sam Barlow is still the master of the carefully crafted reveal, even if at times this particular web of deceit unravels a little too slowly.
The Good:
- Revisits the innovative device of searching through FMV clips in Her Story with a bigger cast, shot in more locations
- believable actors and dialogue create an immersive world
- clues to piece together the narrative are carefully placed to create rewarding gameplay.
The Bad:
- Rewinding or fast-forwarding through huge chunks of silence starts to feel repetitive
- enormous number of clips to watch with little direction can feel overwhelming
- Simple Note function doesn’t work whilst videos play.
