Our Verdict:
Essentially five short games in one, Photographs presents a series of dark, disturbing, and above all compelling tales of woe interspersed with their own diverting puzzle minigames ranging from easy to challenging.
The Good:
- Character stories are compelling
- final choice is appropriately weighty
- puzzle segments help build anticipation
- cute pixel artwork juxtaposes nicely with dark subject matter.
The Bad:
- Use of certain game mechanics isn’t as clear or straightforward as it should be
- lack of free-save ability prevents seeing alternate outcomes
- puzzles aren’t integrated into the stories.
