Default Abandonware opinion

Somewhat along the lines of my other thread, but anyway...

Whats your opinion on abandonware? The distrbution of unsold and unsupported games is what I'm referring to, not oldwarez. Its just that with companies like VUgames sitting on the old sierra licenses, and lucasarts not budging with the old titles.....its impossible to get your hands on the oldies. Especially if you are new to them.

I applaud the effort, but in my opinion more sites need to make the defiintion more clear.

I think it's a problem that faces the entire software industry, not just games. Vista will have proper OS virturalization which will go a long way. The problem is that just because a game is old doesn't mean the publisher wants to give it away for free. I think you'll see the old LEC games back for sale under modern OS's someday (at a very very reasonable price), and then everyone wins. We're just in an awkward time in history when the concept of "old software" is new, and we're all figuring out how to deal with it. But it'll be a solved problem very soon.
