Default The Maturation of Sherlock

Welcome to our forums, Serge! We are more than pleased to have you here.

Frogwares recently released Mystery of the Mummy, another Sherlock Holmes-based adventure game with a wide range of views, most of which praised the rather pleasing voice acting. On the other hand, the game seemed to have left the character of Sherlock Holmes and his interactions with others on the flat side.

Did you take this into account when creating The Case of the Silver Earring? Have you created a game more heavily focused on character? How so?

And if this was not an area of focus, can you tell me what previous experiences with the Sherlock stories helped you to grow and improve in your latest adventure game? What mistakes did you learn from, if any? What previous successes do you capitalize on in your current Sherlock mystery?

Thanks for your responses!

The mystery of the mummy was released two years ago and was an excellent commercial success. It was our first game, made in very difficult conditions, and without it, we would not have been able to continue.
Spite these positive points, the game is not perfect, and we took very seriously the critics from both adventure gamers and Sherlock Holmes fan, we had to reconsider completely the way we chose to do the game.

And so we did or tried to do it, we selected an excellent story, did our best to adapt it, spent dozens of hours with the team to watch movie, discuss Sherlock personality (which was a big issue as the russian actor Livanov, who is doing the voice over on the russian version, is the only possible Sherlock Holmes for russian speakers for 25 years, and he is quite different of some western conceptions). We went to London and shoot 4000 photos of street, interiors, etc....
the work of preproduction was well done and it really help to have a good production after.
The clear understanding of Holmes personnality and environment is obviously a key point in this game. His way of deduction, his relations with the other people, and the most important his way to dramatize the truth and his moral sense are clear beacons in the way to the production.
