Welcome Frogwares!!

[Cue triumphant theme music]

It's our first-ever Developer's Chat at Adventure Gamers, and we're pleased to welcome Sergey Geraschenko and Wael Amr from Frogwares, the creators of the upcoming Sherlock Holmes mystery, The Case of the Silver Earring.

Sergey, the Project Coordinator for Silver Earring, will be our guest on Day 1 of the chat, before handing off to Wael, who's the head honcho, himself - producer of Silver Earring and President of Frogwares.

Silver Earring is the third game from this promising Kiev-based developer, following on the heels of a first-person adventure based on another Sherlock Holmes adventure, The Mystery of the Mummy, and a third-person fantasy adventure called Journey to the Center of the Earth, based on the Jules Verne novel.

Next up is another adaptation of a Verne story, Around the World in 80 Days, about which we know very little at this point (at least until we pester them to tell us something).

(Hmm... Holmes, Verne, Holmes, Verne... I do believe I spot a pattern, Watson!)

Anyway, it's a real privilege to have these two guys with us, as they're clearly positioning themselves as major players in the adventure game industry.

So without further ado, welcome, Sergei and Wael!!

Hello and welcome to all adventuregamers who love Sherlock Holmes :pan:

Jackal 08-24-2004 11:36 PM

Woohoo! He's here! :) Glad you could be with us. I see now that I've managed to spell your name in pretty much every conceivable way. Is it Sergey, Sergei, or Serge?

SERge 08-24-2004 11:45 PM

well, it depends what accent you want to reproduce
French people call me Serge
in Ukrainian - Serhii :D
in Russian my name sounds more like Sergey ;)

it is up to you!

Jackal 08-24-2004 11:51 PM

Ack!! Don't give me MORE options! :D

OK, I'll go with Sergey, because that's how it's listed on Silver Earring.

Steve Ince 08-25-2004 06:51 AM

Hi Wael and Serge, keep up the good work. Best of luck with the game.

Love the demo, will get the full game.

(soon as I find more change under the sofa :shifty: )

Hey Wael!

(how do I do that double dotted e...?)

nice talking to you in London!

Great to see the Sherlock game is taking off now! Best of luck with it!
Btw, I read about the 23,000 lines of dialog. Is that figure correct...? Jesus Christ. How long did it take to record that? And how long to actually *write* it? How many writers were involved?

(I think Steve somewhere mentioned that BS3 has 6,600 lines. MOS has 7,500 lines.)

Martin/HoT

edit: Waël. I figured it out. ;)

Hi Steve, Hi Martin,
(feel strange to say hello to pillars of adventure game)

I didn't wrote the text, I had to cut 70% of it (broke my heart), but the worst is that the quality is far above quantity in this case,
Laura Mac Donald helped us for the translation (Laura, we go to eat in London fish and chips with mustard next week, I pay the coffee).
The good thing is we succeed to do 35 minutes of movie in three months, you know what I mean speaking about production.

MOS will be a big hit, everybody is waiting for it, I'm waiting for the demo, when will you release it? who is your publisher for the US?

I'm confused by this. Don't German's have this in some form as a standard keyboard key?

That's besides the point though. The number of lines in these games interests me, as it gives me some idea of the story's length - so kudos for mentioning these things (which I probably should have read elsewhere :S)...

No. We have keys for the so called "Umlauts", ö, ä, and ü, but that's it.

Laura? The girl from gameboomers? Man, the world really is a village... :)
This is by far the most dialog I've ever seen in a game. I can't wait to play it.

Maniacs. I guess you've all had coronary bypass surgery after that, right...?. :)

About MOS, I cannot comment on US publisher and demo date yet - but both will happen really soon, like... about... *looks at watch* ... my god. I have to run.

:D

Yes, Martin, quit goofing around here and go secure that deal! :D Looking forward to that announcement.

Then come back for an HoT Dev Chat with us. *D
