Where does the main inspiration for MoS come from? Is there any particular book , movie or other thing that has had more influence on the story than others?

There is a crack in the floor under my desk, and I constantly breathe the strange yellowy vapors that come out of it...

That aside, "1984" is of course important. And "The Age of Spiritual machines" is, too.
