Kyrandia 3 under XP
I have a problem. I want to replay kyrandia 3, but it does not work under xp. In fact, it does, but there is no sound, which takes half of the pleasure of playing the game. VDMsound and DOSbox dont work either.

My suggestion: Invent a new operating system.
(Sorry, I have no idea, but there are places like vogons.com or org or something, and the habitat for lesser canines [if you don't know, PM me] that might help. And I really need to up my post count. 20.53 posts/day?! Insane!)

Hi Vel!
I've tried it on my Kyrandia's III version under WinXP SP1 having enabled VDMSound support (I'm using latest VDMSound v2.1.0 with implemented LaunchPad; downloaded from VOGONS official web site). My steps: 1) Run install (without VDMS support) 2) Select pure "Sound Blaster" type card (SB16 etc. couldn't be detected) 3) Finalise the installation following game setup instructions 4) Select DOS type game 5) Go to game directory and make right-click on "malcolm.bat" file and select melody icon "Run with VDMS" 6) Make default settings by pressing "Next" and then "Finish" button 7) Find and make right-click on newly created VDMS shortcut for this file 8) Choose "Properties" item and enable "Low-level CD-ROM Support" and click "Apply" 9) Double-clicking on this shortcut will start the game with sound nad music *Hooray* ) |

Hmmm, a friend of mine owns this game. Maybe I'll borrow it after I'm done playing Runaway.

You can aswell replay it two or three times - it is non-linear.

The puzzle-aspect of this adventure isn't its strongest point, as it's sometimes a bit sloppy. Yet the atmosphere, the dialogue and jokes are outstanding. One of my favourite adventures ^__^

Hi. I was sent here when I had a simular problem with Kyrandia 3. I followed the steps ^scrye^ said, but it still doesn't work. The squiarrl chatters, and I can hear the "pop" sound, but that's it. And the text goes to fast to read.

Hi Mage! Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with this game. Hopefully someone who does will come by and post some ideas for you. However, I've had trouble with Sierra games where the text goes by too fast to read - it's related to the CD not being in the drive (or, not in the right drive). Assuming you are playing from a CD, you might make sure it's in your D: drive (if you have two drives) or look around for an .ini file that installed with Kryandia, open it in notepad, and see if it gives a path for the CD drive. Don't know if it's the same issue as with the Sierra games but it's worth a try. emily |
