lock puzzle in "Riddle of the sphinx"

I'm stuck in the very beginning of ROTS. The lock on the chest in Gil's tent simply wouldn't budge, no matter how many trials. I managed to get the combination code, and operating the lock is easy. But this puzzle seems to be rather pixel sensitive. I know this is a relatively old game, but is there a saved game with the chest open?

I seem to recall ROTS having a patch that might help here.

Have you looked for one?
