Unfortunately, no (third party) patches have been released up till now so my guess is that the panning speed problem will never be fixed.
However, there are several slowdown programs that might help. Just Google for Mo'Slo of Slowdown. Good luck!

See the following link for the slowdown program:
http://www.hpaa.com/moslo/ The basic version is free and sufficient for Shivers 2 if I remember correctly and fortunately, the instructions are selfexplanatory. Hope it works for you!

Slow down utilities are of limited usefulness on modern PCs. If you can find a copy of Windows 3x, you can install it in DOSBox and play the game in DOSBox. This would fix all speed/compatibility problems.

Any idea what the problem may be? PS: I used the following guide to install Windows 3.1 in DOSBOX: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=9405

If I remember correctly, Shivers2 was was designed to "barely" run on Windows 3.1. It never ran well on my 3.1 drive. Think you might need to up the ante to Win95. If you can run that in a separate partition you probably won't need DosBox to get the game to run.
Shivers1 was the only version that ran, as designed, on 3.1

Personally, I'd rather use DOSBOX than any other Virtual Machine program.
See the following links for more info: DOSBOX: http://www.dosbox.com/ WIKI Page for DOSBOX: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOSBox

Win 9x is not supported in DOSBox (yet). For 9x games, you'll need a virtualizer. VirtualPC is a free download from Microsoft. QEMU, Bochs and VMware Virtual Server are also free. VirtualPC is easy to use, but QEMU might be the best one for games.

The game wasn't programmed with the computing speed of new hardware in mind. So, guess we'll just have to do...

The trouble with Mo'Slo is that it only slows down DOS programs. CPU Grabber slows down the computer itself, so it works with any program. Definitely works with Windows 9x and XP -- I don't know if it works with Vista. Very easy to use (simple slider to adjust the amount of "grab") and it really makes a difference in speed.
Download from this list -- just scroll down a bit to "CPU Grabber".

Hi, I just installed Shivers 2 on XP. It seems to run fine in compatibility mode, and CPUgrabber really helps with the insane panning speed. However, when the game starts in the motel office, the video clips of the office manager guy speaking to me and moving around do not appear. I only see his still image the whole time. I can still interact with him, get motel key, etc. but I don't like missing out on this aspect of the game and wondered if others have this problem or know of a way to fix it.
It's ironic, because I remember having this problem when I first played the game ten years ago, and fixing it somehow, but that was in 1998. |

Check the new installer by http://www.squirtthecat.com/
http://www.squirtthecat.com/games/shivers_2/index.html It solved my problems and even made the movies look better. Last edited by Dale Baldwin; 08-05-2008 at 09:09 AM. Reason: fixed broken link |

Almost there...
...using the squirtthecat exe seems to have solved the program crashing (or not even starting.) But the panning is still way too fast. I have tried using the cursor keys and that helps somewhat but they are a bother to use. Did you change any of the compatibility settings to help slow the pan? Thanks!
